Ruzmetov and Mullojonov were the teenage winners of the Zolotarev Memorial Tournament in Andizhan

The 11th edition of the Valentin Zolotarev Memorial Tournament was held for the elite men boxers in the city of Andizhan which is located in the Ferghana Valley in Uzbekistan. Among the winners of the new editions Uzbekistan’s Abrorbek Abdusalomov, Fozil Abdumurodov, Kamronbek Eshmatov, Dilshodbek Ruzmetov, Jamshidbek Abdullaev and Lazizbek Mullojonov each younger than 20.
Uzbekistan’s international elite male tournament was launched eleven years ago and Andizhan is the general host of the event. Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan also sent boxers to the Zolotarev Memorial Tournament where ten winners celebrated their gold medals mainly young future prospects of our sport.
Abrorbek Abdusalomov attended in several international events in Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and in Kyrgyzstan therefore he was too experienced for his opponents in Andizhan. The young Uzbek light flyweight (49kg) boxer won the first gold medal in the event after beating Kyrgyzstan’s Mirsaid Kuldashov and he defended his throne in the Zolotarev Memorial Tournament.
The flyweight (52kg) gold medal was taken by Fozil Abdumurodov of Dzhizak who defeated Daniyar Orzikulov in the final of the Zolotarev Memorial Tournament. Sherzod Kimsanov is a new face at the bantamweight (56kg) but he was able to beat Uzbek National Champion Hasanboy Latibakhunov in the final. Uzbekistan’s strong duo Oybek Jurayev and Abdulla Kuchkarov claimed only bronze medals in the Zolotarev Memorial Tournament in Andizhan.
Andizhan’s Navruz National Tournament winner Kamronbek Eshmatov was a successful youth boxer and the 20-year-old talent reached one of his highlights beating Dzhizak’s Jakhongir Davydov in the final of the lightweight (60kg). Kazakhstan’s Abdukhasil Baltiyev walked over in the semi-final against Kyrgyzstan’s Bek Kamchybekov and after that he was able to get the title of the light welterweight (64kg).
Uzbekistan’s Fazliddin Meliboev was impressed in the World Series Boxing last year but in 2018 he suffered several unexpected losses in the recent one year and finally he claimed only bronze medal at the welterweight (69kg) in Andizhan. The gold medal of this category went to the 2017 silver medallist Farkhat Shamuratov who defeated all of his rivals in the Zolotarev Memorial Tournament.
Ferghana’s Bakhromjon Fozilov won the gold medal in the last edition of the Zolotarev Memorial Tournament at the light heavyweight (81kg). The 21-year-old boxer moved down to the middleweight (75kg) and defeated Kazakhstan’s National Champion Abay Tolesh and Samarkand’s Fanat Kakhramonov during his road to the title.
ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships bronze medallist Shokhrukhbek Rustamov and Tashkent region’s AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships silver medallist Dilshodbek Ruzmetov both impressed in the final of the light heavyweight (81kg) which was won by the younger Ruzmetov. Kukon’s Jamshidbek Abdullaev eliminated WSB boxer Sardorbek Yormukhammedov and continued his winning path against ASBC Asian Youth Champion Profsor Rorimsha of Uzbekistan at the heavyweight (91kg).
Obidjon Tokhirov and Lazizbek Mullojonov both won gold medals in thee recent editions of the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships. Their super heavyweight (+91kg) final was a spectacular one and the last title was won by 19-year-old Mullojonov at the Zolotarev Memorial Tournament. The bronze medals were achieved by Abdulla Khudorganov and Ulugbek Mubinov who achieved silver medals in the previous ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships.
