Rababi, Baddour and Esmaeel continued their gold medals at the Syrian Youth National Championships

The Syrian Youth National Championships was held as selection event for the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships. Damascus was the host of the event this time where their strong 17-year-old talents as Amar Rababi, Mohammed Ali Baddour and Mohammed Assef Esmaeel won their strong weight categories.

The Syrians made an important return to the boxing stage at the Dubai 2021 ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships and the CISM Military World Boxing Championships. The Syrians have got strong traditions in our sport and their experienced President Mr. Mohamed Kamel Shbib works hard to bring back the country to the top.

Syria is planning to attend at the upcoming ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships which will be held in Amman, Jordan from February 27 until the 15th of March. Jordan is near to their homeland and their management is planning to send their best boxers to Amman in order to increase their experiences.

The first gold medal of the whole Syrian Youth National Championships was achieved by Latakia’s Mahmoud Firas who defeated Ali Al-Haji at the men’s minimumweight (48kg). Amar Rababi won his first national title as a schoolboy in 2019 which guaranteed his involvement to the national team. He was quarter-finalist at the Kuwait City 2019 ASBC Asian Schoolboys Boxing Championships and won his first youth national title.

Latakia’s Mohammed Ali Baddour was also quarter-finalist at the Kuwait City 2019 ASBC Asian Schoolboys Boxing Championships with top performance. He showed excellent technical skills as schoolboys and later as a junior boxer but since January, he competes at the youth age group. The super talented boxer dominated his final against Mohamed Jaber at the bantamweight (54kg) proving his top skills.

Latakia’s Junior National Champion Mohammed Assef Esmaeel turned to 17 in January and following his strong preparation, he defeated Aleppo’s Osama Rabaa in the final of the featherweight (57kg). Hama’s first title in the Syrian Youth National Championships was taken by Yousef Al-Ali who defeated Amir Bahrili at the lightweight (60kg).

Damascus’ Ahmad Nabaa won the title of the light welterweight (63.5kg) following his success over Hama’s Haydara Dayoub in the final. Moudar Suddan achieved Hama’s second gold medal after beating Bashar Shrieqi at the welterweight (67kg) before Aleppo’s Abed Helaani won the gold medal at the light middleweight (71kg).

Heidar Fadel won the heavyweight (+80kg) at the 2021 Syrian Junior National Championships and he joined to the youth boxers in January 2022. The 16-year-old boxer competes at the cruiserweight (86kg) now and defeated Mohamed Joukhili in the final. Syria has got strong potential in the heaviest weight classes and their tradition is excellent. Qunatra’s Zien Alabdien Saqer has got strong family connections to boxing and controlled his final against Latakia’s 16-year-old Ahmed Layeth.
