President of the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka Mr. Dian Gomes donated the regional boxing schools of Nuwara Eliya with equipments in their headquarter

The President of the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka Mr. Dian Gomes donated boxing equipments the Nuwara Eliya regional team in Colombo in his office. The Boxing Association of Sri Lanka has long term projects to develop boxing from the grassroots and also the high performance team with more international events. Their main strategic goal is to get medal in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in boxing.
Mr. Dian Gomes is one of the most active officials in the Asian continent who works also as coach in the ringside with the Sri Lankan national team. Their squad claimed record number of three bronze medals in the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games which makes them national heroes in each part of the beautiful country. Among them Anusha Kodituwakku attended in the New Delhi 2018 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships which was her last event during her long and successful career.
Nuwara Eliya is located in the hill country of the Central Province and its name means the city of light in Sinhalese. Nuwara Eliya is known from its world class tea plantations, temperate climate which makes the city to the coolest area in whole Sri Lanka. The region is in the position to develop boxing in the school level and Boxing Association of Sri Lanka gave them full support to their training facilities.
Mr. Dian Gomes donated the boxing schools of the Nuwara Eliya Educational Zone with new boxing equipments which included gloves and head guards for the development of the young talents. The officials arranged a brief Ceremony at the headquarters of the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka in Colombo.
Mr Lenny Hagland the Chairman and Mr Mohan Samarasinghe of England-based Islington Boxing Cub are the main facilitators of sponsoring boxing equipment for the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka.
The equipment was donated to Mr. Susantha Weerasena the Assistant Director of Education to facilitate the ongoing three months coaching course for 25 selected School Physical training Instructors in Nuwara Eliya Educational zone. Weerasena said that this donation will be a turning point as this is the first time in boxing history where Nuwara Eliya Zone will be provided with better gears to conduct training of future boxers.
Mr Dian Gomes the President of the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka, stated during the brief ceremony held in the Office of Boxing Association that the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka is in the forefront to support the development of School boxing in the Island.
