Podi Arachchige Rukmal Prasanna is the No.1 in the Sri Lankan Youth National Selection Tournament

Sri Lanka is a developing boxing country in the South Asian region but their Boxing federation has got great potential and future hopes. Their next national event, the Sri Lankan Youth National Trials was a successful competition in the country and their biggest future star Podi Arachchige Rukmal Prasanna claimed the gold medal.
Sri Lanka has got great plans to increase the level of their athletes in the upcoming years. President Mr. Dian Gomes decided to send boxers to all main international competitions and training camps to strengthen their team while their long term strategic project until 2024 is under progress.
The Sri Lankan Youth National Selection Tournament was held in five weight classes to decide their squad to the upcoming Bangkok event. The event was their last selection for the upcoming ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships which will be held in Bangkok, Thailand in July 1-7.
Podi Arachchige Rukmal Prasanna competed in the last edition of the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships in Pavlodar, Kazakhstan. He attended in the Emil Jechev Youth Memorial Tournament in Sofia one year ago where he defeated also a tough Kazakh boxer. The 18-year-old light flyweight (49kg) boxer is now more powerful and defeated his main local rival S.M.K.S. Bandara in the final.
Kuda Vithanage Lasindu Eranda is also a super talented boxer in Sri Lanka who has been preparing to the upcoming ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships. He has got also international experiences and dominated his semi-final and final contests against his younger rivals. Both of his bouts ended by the referee by RSC therefore Sri Lanka’s youth flyweight (52kg) No.1 received the right to box in the national team.
Following H.M.K.C. Ekanayake’s success at the bantamweight and K.D. Jayalath’s close triumph at the lightweight (60kg) another remarkable performance was delivered by a young talent in the Youth National Selection Trials. Weerasekara Mudiyanselage Dhananjaya Madushanka B. Jayarathne will be turning to 18 only in September but his skills were enough to beat P. Vishnu in the final of the light welterweight (64kg) and his efforts delivered for him a ticket to the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships.
