Philippines’ Nesthy Petecio is the winner of the ASBC online voting and named as the Best Boxer of the Indian Open Tournament

Philippines’ Nesthy Petecio won the online voting in the Asian Boxing Confederation’s Facebook page and named as the Best Boxer of the Indian Open Boxing Tournament. The 25-year-old Filipino boxer won the women’s featherweight (57kg) in the Indian Open Boxing Tournament in New Delhi.
Nesthy Petecio was born in Santa Cruz, Davao del Sur on April 11 in 1992 and she began boxing at the age of 13 in 2005. She won the Filipino Open Boxing Championships three years later which was her first success during her career. Her younger sister Nicezzaa is also a boxer in the Philippines.
Petecio was quickly involved to the national team and competed in the 2009 Asian Indoor Games in Vietnam short after her 17th birthday. She competed in the Astana 2010 ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Boxing Championships and reached the Top8 in the Bridgetown 2010 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships.
Petecio, who can switch from orthodox to southpaw style, achieved silver medal in the 2011 Southeast Asian Games and her first continental podium place, a bronze at the Ulaanbaatar 2012 ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Boxing Championships and also tried to qualify for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Petecio, who lives and trains in Baguio City, reached her career highlight in the Jeju 2014 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships where she bagged a silver medal. The Filipino No.1 claimed bronze medal in the 2015 ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Boxing Championships in Wulanchabu and proved her strength and skills also in several editions of the Southeast Asian Games.
The AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships silver medallist Petecio delivered superb performance in the whole Indian Open Boxing Tournament in New Delhi in the recent days. The 25-year-old Filipino defeated Thailand’s AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships bronze medallist veteran Tassamalee Thongjan, Indonesia’s Southeast Asian Games silver medallist Christina Marwan Jembay during her road to the final. Petecio did enough against India’s promising Sonia in the gold medal contest of the featherweight (57kg) and secured Philippines’ lone title in New Delhi.
