Perfect session for the Uzbeks at the Boxam Tournament today

The second competition day at the Boxam Elite Tournament delivered a perfect session for the Uzbeks in La Nucia, all of their stars advanced to the next stage.

Philippines’ Aira Villegas progressed well in this Olympic cycle and she has been preparing to the 1st World Qualifier with full speed. The Filipino used her technical skills to keep Ireland’s European medallist, Caitlin Fryers on long and she succeeded mostly in the second and third rounds. Villegas finished their light flyweight (50kg) quarter-final strongly with heavy shots and she won this bout by unanimous decision.

Kazakhstan’s Nazym Kyzaibay, the two-time World Champion, used her tricky style of boxing against Portugal’s best female hope, Rita Soares in the quarter-final of the light flyweight (50kg) and she had the dominance from the first until the last seconds. Kyzaibay proved that she is one of the stars in this weight class and joined the last four of the weight class in La Nucia.

Philippines’ Rogen Ladon, the former Asian Games silver medallist, recovered from his injury and he returned to the competitions in this Boxam Tournament. The 30-year-old Filipino had a very difficult job against Wales’ Scott Richards but due to his third round, he was able to turn back their flyweight (51kg) fight.

Thailand’s Phuthanet Rodsuk was silver medallist at the 2023 edition of the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships, and he received the right to compete in his first elite competition in La Nucia. After the difficult first round, the Thai teenager found the best fighting distance and he was able to eliminate Romania’s Iulian Barsanescu at the men’s lightweight (60kg).

Kyrgyzstan’s historic World Championships bronze medallist Munarbek Seyitbek Uulu competes at the lightweight (60kg) in this event and he demonstrated his strong technical skills in Spain as well. The 28-year-old boxer was too smart in all of the exchanges for Switzerland’s Letaief Seifeddine in their Round of 16 meeting today.

Uzbekistan’s Strandja Memorial winner Mujibullo Tursunov, the strong puncher, worked hard from the first seconds against Romania’s former European U22 Champion Robert Jitaru and he opened his light welterweight (63.5kg) campaign successfully. The second Uzbek in this weight class, the reigning World Champion Ruslan Abdullayev eliminated his young Polish rival, Bartlomiej Roskowicz.

Uzbekistan’s World Champion Asadkhudja Muydinkhudjayev had a very difficult start against Spain’s Sergio Martinez, the local boxer knocked him down in the first round. The Uzbek light middleweight (71kg) boxer was able to make a U-turn in this contest while his teammate, Khavasbek Asadullayev had an easier way to the quarter-finals. Uzbekistan’s heavyweight (92kg) duo, the World Championships bronze medallist Lazizbek Mullojonov and his younger compatriot, Shokhjakhon Abdullayev both managed their way to the next stage of boxing. Mullojonov was too strong for Mexico’s Olympian Rogelio Romero while Abdullayev defeated an experienced Polish, Mateusz Bereznicki.
