Pakistan’s elite tilt to serve as selection for Asian, Commonwealth Games

With the aim of finding the best bets for the Asian Games and the Commonwealth Games, the Pakistan Elite National Boxing Championships will be staged from May 21 to 25 in the Punjab province capital city of Lahore.

The Pakistan Boxing Federation and the other seven participating teams can send two of their prized fighters who were born between 1982 and 2003 per weight division of the national competition.

Among those who will be crowned as champions in this upcoming event, three will be sent to the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China in November as guaranteed by the National Olympic Committee while one female pug will secure a spot in the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England in July.

Reigning bantamweight (54kg) king Zakir Hussain and women’s minimumweight (48kg) champ Maria, who came out as the best boxers in the previous elite tilt, are expected to see action again along with the other 17 gold medal winners. A total of 137 men and 26 women boxers vied for the medals in the 38th Pakistan Men’s Elite and 2nd Women’s Elite National Championships that were held simultaneously last December 2021 also in Lahore.
