Pakistan won two contests in the second competition day at the Islamic Solidarity Games

The boxing tournament of the Islamic Solidarity Games continued with 17 contests in Baku, Azerbaijan which bouts were held in two sessions. Among the Asian nations Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan each won contests in the second competition day in Baku.

Light flyweight (49kg):
Iran’s Great Silk Way Tournament bronze medallist Omid Ahmadisafa competed in the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships in Tashkent and proved he has got strong skills at the light flyweight (49kg). The 25-year-old Iranian boxer knocked down his Turkish rival, Tolgahan Ozturk twice during their unequal bout and advanced to the next stage of the Games winning his bout by large margin of difference.
In the same weight class Iraq’s experienced Hasan Ali Naser defeated Jordan’s Abdullah Al-Daraghmeh and Malaysia’s Commonwealth Games quarter-finalist Mohammed Fuad Bin Mohamed Redzuan did enough to beat Algeria’s teenage talent Yacine Touareg. Pakistan’s South Asian Games silver medallist Mohibullah Bacha triumphed over Turkmenistan’s National Champion Dayanch Annaseidov in Baku and also secured his place in the quarter-final stage of the Games.

Flyweight (52kg):
Kazakhstan’s former National Champion and Bocskai Memorial Tournament winner Azat Makhmetov joined to the international events in 2013 and he achieved several titles in the AOB events. The 26-year-old boxer claimed silver in the last Kazakh National Championships in 2016 but he needed to do his very best against Turkmenistan’s Zarip Jumayev who has been competing in the international level since 2009. The Kazakh boxer did a great finish in the last round and the final verdict was 3-2 to the favour of Makhmetov who survived his difficult bout in the Games.

Bantamweight (56kg):
Kyrgyzstan’s National Champion Mirbek Sherov has been competing in the international level since 2011 and his experiences were enough to beat Algeria’s Khalil Litim in the second competition day. Uzbekistan’s unbeaten WSB star 20-year-old Abdulkhay Sharakhmatov dominated the first two rounds against Kazakhstan’s National Championships silver medallist and former ASBC Asian Youth Champion Nurbol Kalzhanov and his efforts were enough to beat one of his main rival in the category.

Middleweight (75kg):
Pakistan’s Tanveer Ahmed is an experienced international level boxer at the middleweight (75kg) who dominated his contest over Mali’s Daouda Traore and advanced to the quarter-final of the Islamic Solidarity Games. Kazakhstan’s Strandja Memorial Tournament winner and ASBC Asian Youth Champion Tursynbay Kulakhmet knocked down Iran’s Seyed Shahin Mousavi in the first round and he was able to continue his strong performance until the final gong in Baku.
Uzbekistan’s promising boxer in this weight class Makhmud Gaipov eliminated Algeria’s Azzouz Boudia and also secured his place in the last eight. Turkmenistan’s former Youth Olympic Games bronze medallist and London 2012 Olympian Nursahat Pazzyyev returned to the world of boxing in the recent months and he was able to turn back his contest against Kyrgyzstan’s experienced 28-year-old Azamat Kanybek Uulu with his great performance in the final round.
