Otgondalai could be Mongolia’s best weapon for a title in the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships in Tashkent

Asia’s boxing power Mongolia sent finally nine boxers to the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships to Tashkent. Their squad contains mostly experienced elite boxers with defending ASBC Asian Champion and Asian Games winner Dorjnyambuu Otgondalai and three further Rio 2016 Olympians on the board.
Mongolia won one gold medal in the last edition of the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships in Bangkok and furthermore their squad took two bronze medals in Thailand. The country bagged record number of six Olympic quotas to Rio de Janeiro last year where Dorjnyambuu Otgondalai achieved bronze.
ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships bronze medallist 23-year-old Gankhuyag Gan-Erdene produced great performance last year with his Olympic quota and enjoyed his participation in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. The Mongolian light flyweight (49kg) No.1 is ready to take a medal back from Tashkent to Ulaanbaatar.
Mungun-Erdene Gandulam is the National Champion in Mongolia at the flyweight (52kg) who regained his place in the national squad. Mongolia’s new sensation 20-year-old Battumur Misheelt defeated Rio 2016 Olympian Enkh-Amar Kharkhuu in their national event and the young bantamweight (56kg) boxer could be a new weapon for them in Tashkent. The new Mongolian National Champion will be making his debut in the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships.
Mongolia’s No.1 current ASBC Asian Confederation Champion and Incheon 2014 Asian Games winner Dorjnyambuu Otgondalai could not win medal in the Doha 2015 AIBA World Boxing Championships but the lightweight (60kg) boxer took bronze in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Following his title in the Thailand International Invitational Tournament he is ready to show his skills once again in our continent where he is a strong favourite. He lost to Rio 2016 Olympian Erdenebat Tsendbaatar in their Nationals but received the right to box for Mongolia in Tashkent.
World Military Games winner Baatarsukh Chinzorig is also among the bests Asians in his weight category and has got realistic chance to beat his top rivals in Tashkent. The Rio 2016 Olympian boxer is one of the favourite of the light welterweight (64kg) in the upcoming ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships.
Mongolia’s two-time Olympian Byamba Tuvshinbat is an experienced boxer with more than 300 bouts in his career who achieved bronze medal in the last edition of the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships in Bangkok. The 30-year-old boxer is member of the national team since 2006 and collected plenty of medals in his career.
Jargal Otgonjargal was bronze medallist in the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games and regained his place at the middleweight (75kg) in the squad. Veteran Sandagsuren Erdenebayar moved up to the heavyweight (91kg) in the recent months and will be done his debut in his new category in Tashkent. The ninth Mongolia boxer in the event will be three-time National Champion Tolek Erbolat at the super heavyweight (+91kg).
