Orazbek Assylkulov was the star of the Kostanay Coaches Memorial Tournament

Kostanay’s next event, the Kostanay Coaches Memorial Tournament delivered impressive female and male elite finals and Orazbek Assylkulov proved his strength once again.

The Kostanay Coaches Tournament was an elite competition for the elite men boxers dedicated for the honoured trainers of the USSR and KazSSR. The competition remembers to Mr. Valeriy Nikulin, Mr. Vadim Gravitskiy, Mr. Mursal Tazhmakin, Mr. Vitaliy Levshin, Mr. Anton Kim and Mr. Sergey Skripnik.

Kostanay is one of the most active boxing cities in Kazakhstan next to Astana, Atyrau, Shymkent, Almaty, Pavlodar and Aktau in the recent three years and the region developed rapidly due to their energetic leadership.

The Kostanay Coaches Memorial Tournament was launched only a few years ago but it became an important competition immediately in the international boxing map.

Following Diana Serikpayeva’s victory at the women’s flyweight, Akmola region’s Gulazhar Zhakyp was too smart for Kamila Koyshubayeva to earn the title of the female featherweight (57kg) in Kostanay.

Anastasiya Rylina, a former Women’s World Championships competitor, returned to the level of the international events, and she won the middleweight (75kg) final against Roksolana Valiyeva with great technical skills.

Timur Kabdeshov eliminated Uzbekistan’s Ikhtiyor Abdukadirov in the semi-finals and he was the favourite in the first male weight class in Kostanay but despite his advantage in terms of routine, he lost to Almaz Nurlan of Karagandy region.

Orazbek Assylkulov was the biggest name at the Kostanay Coaches Memorial Tournament and he accomplished his goal, the gold medal at the lightweight (60kg). The experienced boxer had a great final opponent, the U22 national member Zhanseri Kosherbayev but his routine helped him to win this fight in Kostanay.

Akmola region’s Makzhan Alimov eliminated Begdaulet Askarov in the semi-finals and he had a top performance against the favourite of the light welterweight, Bekzat Makzhan in the next top final of the last session.

Kazakhstan’s Mikhail Kokhanchik was one of the key members in the youth national team in Kazakhstan in 2016 and after nine years, he is still a strong competitor in the sport and he controlled his light heavyweight final over Ilyas Zhandau.

Ilya Medyanik had a very difficult job in the final of the super heavyweight as he met the defending champion of the tournament, Batyrkhan Seitenov, a former Asian Schoolboys Champion, but he managed to win their meeting.
