Nepal’s money prize event the Bagmati Provincial Boxing Championships will be held in March

Nepal is one of the developing boxing countries in the South Asian region which will be returning also to the competitions after one year of break. The Nagarjun Boxing Sports Committee will be the host of the Bir Ganeshman Singh Bagmati Province Boxing Championships from March 3 until the 6th in Nagarjun, Kathmandu.

The Bagmati Provincial Boxing Championships will be held for the elite women and men boxers in the beginning of the next month. The Mayor of Nagarjun Mr. Mohan Bahadur Basnet is the Coordinator of the Main Organizing Committee and he led the Press Conference of the upcoming Bagmati Provincial Boxing Championships.

The women boxers can attend in six different weight categories while the men part of the Bagmati Provincial Boxing Championships is scheduled in eight divisions. The women’s weight categories are the light flyweight (48kg), flyweight (51kg), bantamweight (54kg), featherweight (57kg), lightweight (60kg) and light welterweight (64kg). The men’s event will be held at the light flyweight (49kg), flyweight (52kg), bantamweight (56kg), lightweight (60kg), light welterweight (64kg), welterweight (69kg), middleweight (75kg) and light heavyweight (81kg).

All of the 13 districts of the Bagmati Province have been invited to attend in the event which will be a money prize competition. All of the gold, silver and bronze medallists will be getting money prizes from the local organizers. The best female boxer of the Bagmati Provincial Boxing Championships will earn a two wheeler while the best male athlete of the event will be honoured with a motorbike.

Bagmati is one of the seven provinces of Nepal which established by the constitution of the country in 2015. The municipality of the province will be providing more than 60% of the estimated costs of the Bagmati Provincial Boxing Championships. The organizers have also announced to honour the medallists of the last edition of the South Asian Games which took place in Kathmandu in December 2019.
