Nepal hosted a new U14-U16-U18 Novice Selection Tournament

One of the developing South Asian countries, Nepal hosted their U14-U16-U18 Novice Selection Tournament for the girls and the boys in a three-day long competition.

The President of Nepal Boxing, Mr. Ram Awale, the well-known official, followed the female and male bouts of this under-elite competition and presented the medals in the event.

Nepal Boxing arranged several activities this year, including the National Games, National Selection Tournament and an important Referee & Judge Course, which took place in Satdobato in their International Sports Premise.

Nepal has promising women’s boxing life, the South Asian country reached already quarter-finals at the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships and a medal at the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships.

Thirteen final contests featured in the third competition day, for in the U14 age group, five among the U16s and additionally four at the U18 level.

One of the smallest boxers in the event, Sauraj Lama had the clear success over Rinzen Lama and he proved one of the best performances in the U14 age group.

Another top contest in the U14 level was held between Nimesh Bohora and Joseph Rai, and in that fight the first won their meeting by unanimous decision.

Roshan Shrestha started slowly against Tsering Sherpa at the 45kg weight class in the U16 age group but he stepped into the gas in time in the third round. Following his heavy blows, the referee confirmed Shrestha’s RSC victory in the last minute of their final.

Diwar Khadka delivered the second RSC triumph in the U16 competition while Rohit Dhital had only a 3:2 success over Yojan Rai at the 60kg weight category.

Nima Sherpa won the first U18 final of the selection event, the novice boxer controlled two out of the three rounds against Rabin Dimdong to earn a gold medal.

Aaryush Thapa Magar had to do his very best to beat a dangerous opponent, Anubhav Thapa at the U18 lightweight (60kg) final. Another U18 boxer, Baurav Lama won the last gold medal of the novice selection tournament, he stopped his rival in the second round.
