Uzbekistan Women's National Cup 18

A historical Uzbek city Bukhara hosted an international women’s elite tournament to celebrate the start of the spring, Navruz with boxing contests. Uzbekistan became the best team in the Bukhara International Women’s Tournament, Tajikistan was the runner-up while Kazakhstan finished third in the event.
Uzbekistan proved amazing performance in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games where their boxers claimed three titles and four further medals in the August’s event and Yodgoroy Mirzaeva delivered a historical female quota place for the country. The amazing result of their boxers began also a new era in Uzbekistan’s women’s boxing as well where the number of the female elite and youth boxers is multiplied.
Bukhara’s Galym Zharylgapov Memorial Tournament silver medallist Azizabonu Mamirova joined to the elite age group only this January and after her participation in the Uzbek Women’s National Cup she decided to move down to the light flyweight (48kg). The 18-year-old talent eliminated Uzbek Women’s National Cup winner Fotimakhon Tursunbayeva in the quarter-final and she was also too strong for another young talent, Natalia Kodirova in the gold medal bout.
Dzhizak’s No.1 Aziza Yokubova won the title in the Uzbek Women’s National Cup and moved down to the flyweight (51kg) this time. The young talent eliminated Tajikistan’s AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships competitor Svetlana Veglina in the quarter-final and continued her winning path against Dilnozakhon Negmatullayeva in the semi-final and Maftuna Muzaffarova in the gold medal bout.
Another young Uzbek talent Farida Turdiyeva proved top performance in the International Women’s Tournament in Bukhara in spite of the fact she was not the favourite of the bantamweight (54kg). The Tashkent-based boxer defeated Makhliyo Khabibullayeva in the semi-final and after that she had to meet for the gold with Ugiloy Satimova. Turdiyeva lost to her Andizhan-based opponent two months ago but this time she was able to do revenge in Bukhara which result is her career highlight.
Uzbekistan’s best female athlete Rio 2016 Olympian Yodgoroy Mirzaeva moved back to her previous lightweight (60kg) in the recent months but this time she competed at the featherweight (57kg) in Bukhara. The 20-year-old Samarkand-based boxer had to meet with AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships competitor Dilnozakhon Odilzhonova in the final and she was able to beat her strong rival by unanimous decision.
Galym Zharylgapov Memorial Tournament bronze medallist Gulnoza Rakhmatova is only 18 but she is already among the bests of the lightweight (60kg) in Uzbekistan. Following her semi-final triumph over Bukhara’s Nigina Soliyeva she did her best ever performance against Tajikistan’s ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Boxing Championships bronze medallist Shoira Zulkaynarova in the final of the event.
Chinggis Khan Cup winner Maftunakhon Melieva is another super talented woman boxer in Uzbekistan who will be turning to 20 only later this year. Melieva had to beat her main local rival in the final of the light welterweight (64kg), Emine Shmykova while Kazakhstan’s Amina Amankul claimed only bronze medal this time in Bukhara.
Nafisakhon Askarova competed at the welterweight (69kg) this time and claimed the title in Bukhara. She defeated her tough teammates such as Galym Zharylgapov Memorial Tournament bronze medallist Gaukhar Mirzaeva in the semi-final and ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Boxing Championships silver medallist veteran Shakhnoza Nizamova in the final.
Uzbek national team member and AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships competitor Ezozakhon Melieva did not give any chance to Khayotkhon Zharmatova in the final of the middleweight (75kg) in Bukhara. Guzal Ismatova was silver medallist in the last edition of the ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Boxing Championships in Wulanchabu therefore her dominancy over Tajikistan’s Gulmira Isroilova and Uzbekistan’s Shakhnoza Vadiyeva was not a surprise in Bukhara.
