Navbakhor Khamidova leads Team Uzbekistan in Bangkok

As Uzbekistan qualified the full male team, only four of their female boxers will be competing in the upcoming 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Bangkok, Thailand.

The 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event is the last opportunity for all of the competitors to earn quotas for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Uzbekistan’s two young girls from their 2003 age group such as Sabina Bobokulova (50kg) and Nigina Uktamova (54kg) both qualified for the Olympic Games.

Their seven male boxers, Hasanboy Dusmatov (51kg), Abdumalik Khalakov (57kg), Ruslan Abdullayev (63.5kg), Asadkhudja Muydinkhudjayev (71kg), Turabek Khabibullayev (80kg), Lazizbek Mullojonov (92kg) and Bakhodir Jalolov (+92kg) all qualified for the Paris Olympics.

Mr. Elshod Rasulov, Mr. Islom Tajibayev, Mr. Timur Akhbayev and Mr. Lazizbek Zokirov are the coaches in the women’s national team who selected the four participating female boxers in Bangkok.

Sitora Turdibekova claimed a gold medal at the 2021 Asian Boxing Championships in Dubai at the age of 19 and she reached the quarter-finals in the Women’s World Boxing Championships as well. She is Uzbekistan’s best boxer at the women’s featherweight (57kg) and the 22-year-old is one of the favourites in Bangkok.

Rashida Taghirova replaced the Tokyo Olympian Raykhona Kodirova in the national team at the women’s lightweight (60kg). The Karakalpakstan region’s 22-year-old talent is a National Champion from 2022 but she has relatively low number of international contests yet.

Navbakhor Khamidova is the defending Asian Champion at the women’s welterweight (66kg) and she did not earn the most awaited quota yet. The 23-year-old boxer has six years of international experience and she has the strength and tactical skills to achieve her dream.

Aziza Zokirova is two-time Asian Youth Champion and she moved up to the middleweight (75kg) last year to accomplish her target, the Olympic spot. The 20-year-old boxer competed in the recent Asian U22 Boxing Championships in Astana which was her last preparation event before Bangkok.

Their men’s elite boxers will be there in a training camp in Yangiabad from May 25 which is part of the Olympic preparation.
