Mr. Weerasinghe and Mr. Indrasena elected to key positions of the Boxing Referees & Judges Association of Sri Lanka

The Annual General Meeting of the Boxing Referees and Judges Association (BRJA) of Sri Lanka was held in the country’s capital in Colombo. The main topic of the General Meeting was the elections of the Association for the years of 2020 and 2021 which event took place at the Duncan White Auditorium of the Ministry of the Sports.

Sri Lanka’s boxing life is in developing stage based on their medals at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games and the Kathmandu 2019 South Asian Games. The country’s next goal is to prepare well to the 2022 Commonwealth Games where the President of the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka Mr. Dian Gomes believes that their boxers can produce wonderful results once again.

Former National Champion Mr. Lt. Col. Hemantha Weerasinghe is one of the engines in Sri Lanka’s boxing life who works as ITO in the international events and he is a well-known official in Asia. He was elected for the key position of Secretary of the Boxing Referees and Judges Association (BRJA) of Sri Lanka.

Former National Champion and Army boxing coach Mr. R.K. Indrasena is one of the Instructors in Sri Lanka who worked and supported several courses through Asia in the recent years. He was re-elected as President of the Boxing Referees and Judges Association (BRJA) of Sri Lanka.

The Vice-Presidents of the Boxing Referees and Judges Association of Sri Lanka are Major P.L.J. Ratnasooriya and Mr. C.P.M. Nanayakara. A former coach and a senior Referee & Judge Priantha Malavi was re-elected as Honorary Auditor uncontested for the 19th year in succession. The Assistant Secretary of the Boxing Referees and Judges Association (BRJA) of Sri Lanka is Mr. Prasad Wijesekera. The main plan of the Boxing Referees and Judges Association of Sri Lanka is to arrange an AIBA 1-star Referee & Judge Course in the country in the period of 2020 or 2021. The Sri Lankans are planning to use a transparent system to evaluate their Referees & Judges in the national events. The next key decision which was made in the meeting was to increase the possibilities of their boxing officials in the international events.
