Mr. Serik Konakbayev – The ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships will be a qualifying event

ASTANA. KAZINFORM – Exactly a month later, on April 19 the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships starts in Bangkok. Serik Konakbayev, the President of Asian Boxing Confederation, Vice-President of Amateur International Boxing Association (AIBA) told about the upcoming competitions.

– An important feature of the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships is that it will be a qualifying event. Our boys and girls will be selected for the 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games and the Youth World Boxing Championships in Hungary. Of course, for any athlete who has dedicated himself to the sport of higher achievements, the most important goal is to participate and win the Olympic Games. It is a little pretentious but a beautiful crown in sports career.

– And participation in the Olympic Games at age of 17-18, even it is the Youth Olympic Games, is not less honorable?
– Of course, I would also note that the current generation of athletes is very lucky. We could not even dream about Youth Olympic Games when we were young. You had to “plow” until Olympics for adults. Modern young boxers have a unique chance to become winners in this Olympic Games, and continue pursuing a career, strive to get into the Games for elite boxers. The current Youth Olympic Games will be the third since 2010, and, as life shows, this initiative of the International Olympic Committee has found its worthy place in the system of international competitions,” concluded Mr. Serik Konakbayev.

It should be reminded that the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships will be held in Thailand from 19 to 28 April 2018. The Summer Youth Olympic Games will be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina from 6 to 18 October.
