The Cambodian women’s elite boxing team will be making their debut in the ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Boxing Championships in Ho Chi Minh City which will be their very first participation in the history of the continental competition. ASBC President Mr. Serik Konakbayev personally supported and covered their delegation’s accommodation costs and foods in Ho Chi Minh City to develop the experiences of the Cambodian boxers.
Cambodia’s bantamweight (54kg) boxer Nao Srey Pov will be meeting with Chinese Taipei’s former AIBA Women’s Youth World Champion Lin Yu Ting in the first preliminary round while her teammate Vy Srey Khouch starts her campaign against Thailand’s FISU University World Champion Ratchadaporn Saoto at the lightweight (60kg).
“Asian Boxing Confederation’s support is very important for us to develop and promote women boxing in Cambodia which reflects Cambodian Boxing Federation’s strategic goal to enhance women’s participation in the country. I would like to take this opportunity to thanks to ASBC, especially ASBC President Mr. Serik Konakbayev for always supporting our boxers in the international competitions.
This competition will be a great chance for our women boxers to experience the international events to understand their current level in order to improve their performance for the future tournaments. As it is our first time to take part in this competition, we don’t expect for medals, but our boxers are highly committed to get positive results. I believe this is a great starting point for our women boxers to be successful in future international competitions.
Our women boxers had been training with the national coaches for two months to the competition. Although the training period is not long enough for them, they are ready to perform their best in the competition,”
said the General Secretary of the Cambodian Boxing Federation Mr. Sophoan Buy.
