Mr. Serik Konakbayev: “Our hard work paid off and now Asia is the leader of the continents at the very first time in the history of the AIBA World Boxing Championships”

The top Asian men boxers delivered sensational performance in the first five competition days of the Hamburg 2017 AIBA World Boxing Championships. Asia achieved nearly 40% of all medals in the AIBA World Boxing Championships and ranked No.1 in the competition of the podium places of the continents.
The Asian boxers achieved 15 medals out of the possible 40 in Hamburg and at the very first time the continent took over the previously dominating Europeans. The American continent has got 12 medals, Europe 11 while Africa and Oceania both one podium places after the quarter-finals of the Hamburg 2017 AIBA World Boxing Championships.
President of the Asian Boxing Confederation and Vice-President of the International Boxing Association Mr. Serik Konakbayev arrived to the venue of the AIBA World Boxing Championships to Hamburg, Germany on Day 4 from the last stage of the preliminaries and we followed all of the quarter-finals in the competition.
“We had a very successful and highest level tournament, the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships in Tashkent this May and further two continental events in Bangkok and in Puerto Princesa but this AIBA World Boxing Championships in Hamburg is our biggest achievement this year.
Fifteen Asian boxers are guaranteed medallist in the AIBA World Boxing Championships and in the first year of the Asian Olympic cycle, our boxers proved they are capable to beat all of the continents. We are all proud of our Asian heroes here in Hamburg and our hard work paid off earlier than in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Now our main mission is to keep this leading position in the upcoming years.
We are working hard to support all Asian countries to develop their boxers and all aspects of the sport to be the leader in boxing among the continents. The medallists Asian countries as Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, India, South Korea and Mongolia proved our slogan is realistic: “Together We Are Power.”
All of the Asian countries will be getting even stronger next year when we will be hosting the Asian Games in Jakarta. I believe Japan, Philippines, China, Thailand, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Syria, DPR Korea, Jordan and Indonesia will be joining with top boxers to our heroic nations which claimed medals in Hamburg,”
said AIBA Vice-President and ASBC President Mr. Serik Konakbayev after the quarter-finals in Germany.
The total number of the boxers is 243 from 75 nations, and among them 57 Asian competitors is attending in Hamburg from 15 different countries from our continent. Among the 57 Asian boxers 15 are still in the competition after five competition days and kept their chances alive to win the gold medals in Hamburg.
