Mr. Serik Konakbayev and the whole ASBC management wishes Happy Birthday to Mr. Andrey Kurnyavka
The President of the Asian Boxing Confederation and Vice-President of the International Boxing Association (AIBA) Mr. Serik Konakbayev, furthermore the whole ASBC management wishes Happy Birthday to Kyrgyzstan’s and Soviet Union’s AIBA World Champion Mr. Andrey Kurnyavka who is celebrating his 50th birthday today.
Mr. Andrey Kurnyavka was born in Frunze which was the previous name of the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek on May 4 in 1968. He began boxing after his swimming career relatively late at the age of 15 but after one year of experience he won the Kyrgyz Junior National Championships. Two years after his debut in boxing he was included to the Soviet Union’s junior boxing team.
Kurnyavka joined to the elite national team in 1987 and 1989 became the highlight in his career when he claimed gold medal in the Moscow AIBA World Boxing Championships and also in the Soviet Union National Championships. Kurnyavka achieved silver medal two years later at the Sydney 1991 AIBA World Boxing Championships. Following his injuries he returned in 1996 to represent Kyrgyzstan at the Atlanta Olympic Games. Mr. Kurnyavka now lives in Moscow, Russia and works as a coach and the Vice-President of the Moscow Boxing Federation.
