The Senior Vice-President of the Uzbekistan Boxing Federation Mr. Saken Polatov was elected as new ASBC Executive Committee member in the ASBC General Assembly in Bangkok on April 17. Mr. Saken Polatov is following the semi-finals in the Huamark Indoor Stadium’s and ASBC asked him to share us his impressions about Uzbekistan’s performance and the future goals of the Central Asian boxing power.
“The venue, the environment, the hospitality and all aspects of the organization are excellent in Bangkok excluding one important thing. Unfortunately the crowd is missing from this ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships.
I am proud of the fact that I was elected as ASBC Executive Committee member here in Bangkok. The members and the whole management is new therefore we have to discuss about our developments in our upcoming meeting in Tashkent.
The Rio 2016 Olympic Games was a strong success for Uzbekistan’s boxing but we have to keep the same strong level in the world. Our new generation is growing and showed strong potential in this ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships.
Nodirjon Mirzakhmedov, Mirazizbek Mirzakhalilov and Sanjar Tursunov are already advanced to the finals at the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships make our country proud. Our Olympic Champion Hasanboy Dusmatov and Asian Games Israil Madrimov are big names in the sport but they lost in the quarter-finals this time.
We strengthened our media relations in Uzbekistan and our TV coverage supports our athletes to be well-known in the country and spread boxing in all regions. We are planning to continue this strong way in our media and PR relations.
Great commitment from our Federation that we realized a boxing boom in Uzbekistan and the number of boxer increased up to 30,000 and I believe it will be doubled very soon. We promoted boxing in all regions of Uzbekistan in the recent years to strengthen also our grassroots.
We had amazing flash mob activities in all regions of Uzbekistan including Karakalpakstan’s Nukus and the ancient city of Samarkand with the participation of 5,000 boxers. The Uzbekistan Schoolboys National Championships is running now in the city of Termez and we have plenty of regional and national competitions every year to cover all age groups.
We will be hosting selection event before the AIBA World Boxing Championships which is one of our main competition in 2019. We have several strong boxers who are not here in Bangkok especially AIBA World Boxing Championships silver medallist Ikboljon Kholdarov and Youth Olympic Games winner Abdumalik Khalokov. All of our athletes have the chance to represent Team Uzbekistan in the AIBA World Boxing Championships.
The ASBC Executive Committee Meeting and ASBC Asian Confederation U22 Boxing Championships will be scheduled to take place in Tashkent in December. We will fix the date together with the ASBC management in the upcoming weeks.
We will be aiming to bid for the 2020 Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event and next year’s important notice that we will be re-launching our traditional event the Sidney Jackson Memorial Tournament,”
