Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira – “We achieved more than we expected in this wonderful ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships”
Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira is the President of the Thailand Boxing Association, the Vice-President of the Asian Boxing Confederation and also the Vice-President of the Thailand National Olympic Committee. We asked him about the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships which finished with the finals yesterday.
Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira is proud of Thailand’s development, their efforts to host more international competitions and lead the Southeast Asian boxing power to the next golden era in the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira summarized his experiences, impressions and opinions about the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships and shared us also their future programs.
“This ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships was a wonderful competition in Bangkok, I am really satisfied with all of the benefits of the event. Thanks for all of our staff, organizers, volunteers and anyone who supported the success of our ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships.
We did not recognize any complains during the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships and our team managed the smaller problems professionally and covered all organizational issues quickly. Hospitality is our national tradition in Thailand which we showed to the participants.
Used to be our youth boxers had only tiny experiences and they were not able to get any top results in the AIBA or in the ASBC events. The current youth team was formed in 2014 and in 2015 and they had three years of experiences also in the ASBC events and other international competitions.
We achieved more than we expected in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships with our four gold medals. We are proud of that our youth team will be attending in the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships and luckily we achieved quotas also for the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games.
We really believe in this youth team and I am sure they will be strong elite athletes in the near future. Might be the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games is too early for them but they could be ready for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
I hope everyone can come back to Thailand in the near future, hopefully we can see our friends also in the upcoming Thailand Open Boxing Tournament. This international elite competition will be held in Bangkok from June 28 until July 6. We are hoping that record number of countries will be there in the Thailand Open Tournament.
We have got a Boxing Academy in Saraburi and also in Bangkok but our strategic plans contain to launch more in every important region of the country. We are still thinking to host one big event in 2019 but we would like to bid for the 2020 Asian Olympic Qualification Event. Our focus is on the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games now,” said Thailand’s Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira after the finals of the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships.
