Mr. Issa Al-Nassar – “This is a wonderful ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships and we are proud of ASBC’s support”
Syria has sent four boxers to the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships to Bangkok and their talents proved their best in Thailand’s capital. Syria achieved amazing performance in the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships and also in the Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku last year.
Mr. Issa Al-Nassar is the President of the Syrian Boxing Federation who is Executive Committee member of the Asian Boxing Confederation. He shared with us his thoughts about Syria’s boxing life, their strategic plans and upcoming participation.
“Our players are students in their high school in Syria and they are preparing also to their exams besides to their sport career. Due these circumstances we could prepare 20 days actively in Damascus before the start of the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships.
We did not have the opportunity to train internationally before the competition but we hope we can make it next time. This is a wonderful ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships, it is always amazing to come to Bangkok. We are so happy that Asian Boxing Confederation supports us with details, information and other kind of support to develop boxing in Syria.
We claimed medals in the elite level at the 2015 ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships and also last year in Tashkent. We did not expect such great results this time from our new boxers. The youth age group is the first step for our athletes to show themselves in the international level. It does not matter if they lose or won their bouts, the most important is they need experiences in the highest level.
Currently we don’t have the opportunity like Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Thailand and India but we are doing our best to develop boxing in Syria. We have got several strategic plans to re-build Syria’s boxing life into the same level where we have been in the last decade before the Civil War.
We are following the training schedule of all clubs in Syria and checking the continuous training of our boxers. We have got more than 1,000 active boxers who train regularly in the country. Our Men’s Elite National Championships is holding this week and this is our selections as well for the upcoming important international competitions.
We hosted our first ever Women’s National Boxing Championships with the participation of 44 female boxers earlier this month which is a historical step in our country. We have got altogether 150 women boxers in each age group who train in Syria.
We will be sending 6 boxers to the upcoming Mediterranean Games which is always important for our country. We are planning to compete also in the Thailand Open Boxing Tournament with 4 boxers, furthermore we will send 6 boxers to the Asian Games,” said Mr. Issa Al-Nassar in the venue of the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships.
