Mr. Dian Gomes introduces the new vision of the Sri Lankan Professional Boxing

Mr. Dian Gomes, the Godfather of Sri Lankan Boxing, returned to the sport in Sri Lanka and he has a new vision about the future.

The vision of the new Sri Lankan Professional Boxing was introduced by one of the most experienced officials, Mr. Dian Gomes to the public.

The International Boxing Association fully supports the new project in Sri Lanka to make that happen in the upcoming short period of time.

Mr. Dian Gomes was the President of Sri Lanka Boxing and during his leadership the country’s boxing earned several historic results including their fantastic three bronze medals at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Mr. Dian Gomes has an important role in the boxing world, he is an active IBA Board of Director with plenty of future ideas. The first Sri Lankan Pro Boxing event would be held at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel or the Shangri La this November.

“Basically, we are commencing IBA Pro in Sri Lanka by forming a private company which is headed by me. The board of directors includes IBA CEO Chris Roberts, IBA Head of Legal Yuriy Zaytsev, David McCoy and Elisha Gomes.

I have built a team of professionals who live and breathe boxing. This is not about politics, its about purpose. We have heart, we have talent, but what we have lacked is a sustainable pathway beyond amateur glory. That is what Sri Lanka IBA Pro will fix.

We are not just building a local league, we are plugging Sri Lankan boxing into a global network. Imagine boxers from Colombo fighting pros from Mumbai, Dubai or Morocco with full TV coverage and prize money. That is where we are headed,” said Mr. Dian Gomes about the Lanka IBA Pro.

The Sri Lankans hosted the last edition of the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships in Colombo on May 10-24 and the local boxers achieved record number of medals on that event.
