The Asian boxers claimed finally three gold medals in the strong event where all of them were delivered by the Mongolians in Halle.
Mongolia sent their best boxers to the Chemistry Cup and in spite of the fact two of their titleholders could not defend their thrones, three of their young hopes achieved the gold medals in Halle. ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships bronze medallist 22-year-old Gankhuyag Ganerdene is even better form than last year and defeated Russia’s EUBC European Youth Champion Ivan Abramov and the host nation’s two best boxers in the Light Flyweight class (49 kg).
Mongolia’s Summer Universiade Games winner Enkh-Amar Kharkhuu returned to the national team in January after his suspension and defeated Morocco’s Rio 2016 Olympian Achraf Kharroubi and also two top German athletes such as AIBA World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Ronny Beblik and Baku 2015 European Games bronze medallist Hamza Touba in Halle therefore he won gold at the Flyweight class (52 kg).
Erdenebat Tsendbaatar will be turning to 20 only later this year but he reached the world class level very quickly and the three-time National Elite Champion secured Mongolia’s third gold medal in Halle. The Bantamweight class (56 kg) boxer eliminated the defending champion Germany’s Raman Sharafa in the semi-finals and continued his winning path against China’s APB Champion Zhang Jiawei which was one of his biggest scalp in his career.
World Military Games winner Battarsukh Chinzorig was titleholder in the Chemistry Cup but this time following his triumph over Kazakhstan’s Aydar Amirzakov in the semi-finals he lost to England’s star Pat McCormack in the gold medal bout. Mongolia’s current ASBC Asian Champion and Incheon 2014 Asian Games winner Dorjnyambuu Otgondalai could not win a medal this time but he lost to only England’s eventual winner Callum French in a hectic quarter-final bout.
