Mirzakhmedov, Mirzakhalilov, Tursunov return atop Uzbekistan Elite National Championships

Nodirjon Mirzakhmedov, Mirazizbek Mirzakhalilov and Sanjar Tursunov made their successful comebacks as they bagged titles in the Uzbekistan Elite Men’s National Championships 2022 held recently in Tashkent.

Two-time ASBC Asian champion Mirzakhmedov picked up where he left off in the Zolotarev Memorial Tournament, tallying a 5-0 beatdown of Shodiyorjon Melikuziev for the minimumweight (48kg) gold medal.

Mirzakhalilov, a former world champion and defending Asian Games titlist, reigned supreme in the featherweight (57kg) class after thrashing ex-Asian youth winner Samandar Kholmurodov, 5-0.

World Championships 2017 bronze finisher Tursunov, for his part, fended off the tough ASBC youth champ Nusratbek Tokhirov for a 4-1 victory in the heavyweight (92kg) division.

Adkhamjon Mukhiddinov was the main favourite at the lightweight (60kg) but he had an early exit in the event in Tashkent where ASBC Asian U22 Champion Dilshod Abdumurodov captured the gold medal.

Mujibullo Tursunov had to miss the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Amman but he won the national title against the 25-year-old Sulaymon Latipov, a former Youth Olympic Games medallist from Nanjing.

Asadkhudja Muydinkhudjayev defeated the ASBC Asian U22 Champion Javlonbek Yuldashev in the last four and he used his speed to beat Bekzod Khamidov of Bukhara in the final of the welterweight (67kg).

A former ASBC Asian Junior Champion Nurislom Ismoilov of Ferghana defeated Bakhtiyorjon Gafurov and claimed the title of the light middleweight (71kg). Youth World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Alokhon Abdullayev is a 19-year-old talent who developed rapidly and defeated all of his rivals at the middleweight (75kg) including ASBC Asian Junior Champion Login Petrov and Abdulaziz Abdupattayev.

ASBC Asian Boxing Championships silver medallist Odiljon Aslonov knocked out his main rival, Dilshodbek Ruzmetov in the Zolotarev Memorial Tournament and he defeated his opponent once again in the finals of the National Championships. Shokhjakhon Abdullayev remained on the top of the cruiserweight (86kg) after beating Temurkhon Sobirov of Ferghana in the final while ASBC Asian U22 Champion Timur Merjanov lost his quarter-final.
