Milana Safronova caused a big sensation in the Kazakhstan Women’s National Championships in Astana where five boxers defended their thrones

The new edition of the Kazakhstan Women’s National Boxing Championships was held in Astana where several big surprises caused by former national team members. Five boxers defended their titles including AIBA Women’s World Champions as Nazym Kyzaibay, Dina Zholaman and Lazzat Kungeibayeva.
Astana hosted the last edition of the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in May 2016 and all of their stars will be attending in the national event. The event is the first selection for the Kazakh boxers for the upcoming AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships which will be taking place in India in November.
Aigerim Kasenayeva has been competing in the international level since many years but in the national events she lost in the recent editions. The light flyweight (48kg) boxer has done excellent job in the semi-final against two-time National Champion Alina Turlubayeva but she was still enough hungry for the success against Alua Balkybekova and defeated the titleholder of the event.
Nazym Kyzaibay is two-time AIBA Women’s World Champion who moved up to the flyweight (51kg) after her last title in Astana. The 25-year-old boxer claimed bronze medal in the Ho Chi Minh City 2017 ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Boxing Championships. Kyzaibay had to meet in the final with her main national rival Rio 2016 Olympian Zhaina Shekerbekova and as in 2017 she was able to beat her.
Following Kyzaibay’s gold medal in Astana another AIBA Women’s World Champion Dina Zholaman was capable to beat all of her top national rivals as ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Boxing Championships competitor Rano Parkhatova and Aida Tuyakbay during her road to the title of the bantamweight (54kg).
AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships bronze medallist 20-year-old Nazym Ishchanova was the titleholder of the featherweight (57kg) but she lost the final to a former national team member, Saniya Sultankyzy. The bronze medals went to AIBA Women’s Youth World Champion Balaussa Muzdiman and 19-year-old Vladislava Kukhta.
Rimma Volosenko is member of the national top team at the lightweight (60kg) since 2016 and her current skills were enough to beat a technician rival AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Aizhan Khodzhabekova. The bronze medals of this weight class were achieved by international boxers as Zhanna Baskayeva and Karina Ibragimova.
Madina Nurshayeva won the gold medal of the light welterweight (64kg) at the Ho Chi Minh City 2017 ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Boxing Championships and became the Best Asian Woman Boxer in 2017. In spite of her strong pedigree she was unable to capture the gold medal in Astana where an experienced boxer Milana Safronova defeated her by split decision causing the biggest sensation in the event.
In the absence of AIBA Women’s World Champion Valentina Khalzova a young talent Akerke Bakhytzhan won the gold medal of the welterweight (69kg) after beating Bayan Akbayeva in the final. Rio 2016 Olympic Games bronze medallist Dariga Shakimova impressed in the final of the middleweight (75kg) and defended her throne following her success over 20-year-old Aida Ondash.
Fariza Shaltay’s skills developed rapidly in the recent two years and after several attempts she was enough strong in Astana to beat all of her rivals including Anastasia Rylina in the final of the light heavyweight (81kg) while experienced Moldir Bazarbayeva took only bronze medal this time. The last gold medal of the whole national event was won by Lazzat Kungeibayeva who was too strong for Umida Sadykova.
