Masihor, Gonzales and Caesar Nanlohy earned gold medals for Indonesia in Negeri Sembilan

Negeri Sembilan’s Nilai hosted the Four Corners Boxing Championships in Malaysia where the Indonesians shined in this men’s elite competitions.

Malaysia welcomed teams from Indonesia and Singapore as well in order to make joint preparations for the upcoming major championships.

The new management of the Indonesian Boxing Federation launched its new strategic and event plans for this year and the country is ready to do big things.

Dufri Masihor, the 1997 Southeast Asian Games gold medallist, worked in the Four Corners Boxing Championships as the coach of the Indonesian national team. Vinky Montolalu, the quarter-finalist from the 2010 Asian Games, also supported the team’s preparations and he underlined the long-term dedication of the athletes.

Mrs. Shelly Selowati H. Soejono, the Vice-President of the Indonesian Boxing Federation, and the Assistant Manager of the national team, underlined the commitment of the new management to build up a strong national team to be ready to compete in the international stage of boxing. The treasurer of the Federation, Mr. Osco Olfriady Letunggamu managed the team in the event.

The Indonesian National Games winner Yoshua Holy Masihor was too strong for Malaysia’s Najmuddin Bin Abdul Rahman and he needed only one round to decide their final contest at the bantamweight (54kg). Masihor, who competed at the 2023 IBA Men’s Elite World Boxing Championships, was too strong for his local opponent in the final to win this meeting by RSC.

Masihor’s teammate, Eliezer Gonzales was already a silver medallist at the 2023 National Championships but he proved strong progress in all aspects of boxing. Gonzales defeated Singapore’s Caelan James Clark and Malaysia’s Muhammad Ridzuan Bin Johari to take the title of the lightweight (60kg).

The next Indonesian, Alfino Caesar Nanlohy was a bronze medallist at the 2017 Southeast Asian Youth Championships, and the 26-year-old boxer looked too experienced for Malaysia’s National Champion Mohamed Firdaus Bin Aziz at the middleweight (75kg) final.
