Marvin Ssali, three others triumph in Qatar Beach Games

Emerging boxer Marvin Ssali and three other standouts snagged the titles in the Qatar Beach Games Boxing Tournament, which served as national selection that was held recently at the Doha Katara Corniche.

Ssali, who is of Ugandan descent, dispatched Ihsan Khan first then stopped Messaoud Hadji in the second round to top the featherweight (57kg) class.

Bravol Hassan Buyinza stopped Robert Gayuka in the semifinals before dominating Hakimu Ssempijja for the light welterweight (63.5kg) gold medal.

Qatar had excellent traditions at the light middleweight (71kg) in the previous years and their new ace could be Sofiane Ahouaz who crushed Artur Uulu and Desiree Busulwa to reign supreme in the light middleweight (71kg) division.

Ali Werghi also beat two opponents namely Mohamed Masousa and Ahmed Said Al-Maqbali for the light heavyweight (80kg) trophy.

The new champions boosted their chances to compete in the upcoming IBA Men’s Elite World Championships, Asian Games and other international competitions.

A total of 19 pugs battled it out in the second national event organized by the Qatar Boxing Federation and the Qatar National Olympic Committee.

 80kg: Ali Werghi
