Maksat Kobetay was the youngest winner in the Karakozy Abdaliyev Memorial Tournament in Shymkent

The 38th edition of the Karakozy Abdaliyev Memorial Tournament was held in Shymkent where ten new champions were celebrated their titles after the finals. Among last year’s winners only Kyrgyzstan’s Sirodjiddin Abdullaev was near to defend his throne in the event where Kazakhstan’s Rustem Elaman, Miras Yertanov, Maksat Kobetay, Nauryzbek Sagimbayev and Dinislam Abdeshov were the bests in the new edition.
Altogether 121 boxers attended in the Karakozy Abdaliyev Memorial Tournament in Shymkent which is similar figure as last year. Besides to host Kazakhstan, the neighbouring countries as Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan sent boxers to the 38th edition of the Karakozy Abdaliyev Memorial Tournament.
Aybar Tansykbayev is a new face at the light flyweight (49kg) but the young Kazakh talent was able to beat Sadaiy Farzaliyev in the final of the Karakozy Abdaliyev Memorial Tournament. Kazakhstan’s next gold was achieved by Elaman Rustem who defeated Youth National Champion 18-year-old Yevgeniy Pavlov in the final. Uzbekistan’s Sirodjiddin Gulomjonov achieved only bronze while Kyrgyzstan’s National Champion Mirlan Turkbay Uulu lost his quarter-final in Shymkent.
Zhandos Sheraly of Almaty joined to the elite age group only this year but he was unstoppable in the final of the bantamweight (56kg) when he met with Uzbekistan’s Shamsherbek Mirzabekov. Another teenage talent, ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships silver medallist Oybek Jurayev achieved bronze in Shymkent.
Miras Yertanov of Taldykorgan achieved bronze medal in the last edition one year ago but now he was the best at the lightweight (60kg) following his success over Tajikistan’s 19-year-old Oyatullo Yakubov. Kyrgyzstan’s Umakhanov Memorial Tournament winner and defending champion in Shymkent, Sirodjiddin Abdullaev advanced to the semi-finals but he was unable to box in the last four due a small injury.
Nurmakhanov Memorial Tournament bronze medallist Nurzhan Makashbayev of Taldykorgan is an experienced boxer in spite of the fact he is only 21. The promising hope defeated Yeldos Baltabayev of Kyzyl-Orda in the final of the light welterweight (64kg) where the bronze medals went to another young Kazakh hopes as Nurbol Sultanbay of Karagandy and Arman Sultanov of Almaty.
Maksat Kobetay of Almaty eliminated Kazakhstan’s ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships silver medallist Azat Ilyubayev and Uzbekistan’s strong Bekzodbek Tursunboyev in the first two rounds in the Abdaliyev Tournament. Following that the 18-year-old boxer was still hungry for the success and controlled his final fight against Bekzat Sabyr at the welterweight (69kg).
Nurgaziz Yermakhanov of Kyzyl-Orda had to meet in the final of the middleweight (75kg) with Almas Sundetbay of Karagandy who eliminated the favourite, Yeldos Sarkulov in the semi-final stage. Yermakhanov does not have enough experience in the elite level yet but his current skills were enough to win his tough weight class.
Nurmakhanov Memorial Tournament winner Nauryzbek Sagimbayev eliminated Russia’s Vladislav Mikheyev in the semi-final of the light heavyweight (81kg) and after that he was confident against Namik Neftaliyev of Almaty in the final. Sagimbayev did enough once again and celebrated his next tournament title in Shymkent.
Dinislam Abdeshov competed in the junior and youth level successfully but after a few poor years he returned to the elite level with better performance at the Abdaliyev Tournament. The 23-year-old heavyweight (91kg) boxer defeated Tajikistan’s Nodir Mukhammadiyev for the title while Kazakhstan’s former ASBC Asian Youth Champion Adilet Orynbasarov took bronze medal in Shymkent.
Russia’s lone gold medal in the Abdaliyev Tournament was delivered by Aleksandr Sidorin at the super heavyweight (+91kg) in Shymkent. He walked over to the final when Kazakhstan’s Nurzhan Bekzatov was unable to box against him in the last four and captured the title against Uzbekistan’s Ikram Saidov who abandoned their gold medal bout.
