Laos’ Khamsathone Khamphouvanh’s amazing comeback delighted the Day2 at the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament

The second preliminary day was held in the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament where 39 contests were in the official program. Laos’ Khamsathone Khamphouvanh won two historical bouts in the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships three months ago and he repeated that performance in the Thailand Open as well advancing to the Top8 after two energetic successes.
The number of the boxers in the competition is altogether impressive 247 from 32 different nations of all of the five Confederations. Among the 247 participants, 98 are women boxers and 149 male athletes are attending in the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament. Fourteen champions will be crowned in the day of the finals on July 27.
Most of the participating nations are using the Thailand Open Boxing Tournament as the last selection and preparation before the upcoming AIBA World Boxing Championships and AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships.

India’s Nikhat Zareen defeated a technician opponent at the women’s flyweight (51kg) on Day2
India’s Nikhat Zareen was AIBA Women’s Junior World Champion in 2011 and since then she increased her international experiences and joined to the best elite boxers of the flyweight (51kg). The 23-year-old Indian, who won the Strandja Memorial Tournament this year, had to meet with New Zealand’s Boxam Tournament silver medallist Tasmyn Benny as first. Zareen did not let her Kiwi opponent on long and her strong will determined the result of the bout. The referee counted the Benny one time in their contest following Zareen’s heavy blow therefore the Indian won the match by unanimous decision.

Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi Tam won the best female fight of the day
Nguyen Thi Tam and Huang Hsiao Wen both claimed silver medals in the last edition of the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships this April. The Vietnamese boxer remained at the flyweight (51kg) but Huang moved down from the bantamweight (54kg) and tried to use her longer hands well. Vietnam’s 2017 ASBC Asian Women’s Champion reduced the fighting range successfully in their meeting but received also jabs from Huang. Nguyen was still enough fresh in the third round to beat her taller rival and advanced to the last eight in Bangkok.

The favourites have done fantastic performances at the women’s lightweight (60kg)
Thailand’s AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships silver medallist Sudaporn Seesondee proved her best performance this year against such strong opponent as India’s AIBA Women’s Youth World Champion Shashi Chopra. The experienced Thai lightweight (60kg) boxer controlled their contest better way than expected and eliminated a tough rival in Bangkok. Vietnam’s Ha Thi Linh moved down to this weight class and dominated her fight against Nepal’s Sangita Sunar on Day2. DPR Korea’s Son Hye Ok attends in her first ever international competition but she was able to beat Thailand’s Anusara Dusanthia in the preliminary round of the division.

Laos’ best boxer Khamsathone Khamphouvanh won two contests within two days in Bangkok
Laos’ best boxer Khamsathone Khamphouvanh has done historical two successes in the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships in Bangkok three months ago and he repeated that performance in the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament. He returned to Thailand’s capital following his success over Malaysia’s Jemis Wong Lee Onn, he eliminated Sri Lanka’s Seneviratne Bandara with an amazing comeback. The Sri Lankan boxer caught his Lao opponent in the end of first round and the referee had to count Khamphouvanh twice. Laos’ pride has done a comeback in the second and proved more aggressively and energetically against his Sri Lankan rival. Khamphouvanh gave in everything in the third round and the referee counted Bandara twice in that period. The best Lao boxer has done a remarkable return and turned back their preliminary bout.

Mongolia’s Enkhmandakh Kharkhuu won his fight by KO on Day2
Mongolia’s Enkhmandakh Kharkhuu moved up to the flyweight (52kg) this year and he demonstrated his excellent strength in the recent competitions. Several of his bouts finished with RSC and KO therefore he arrived confident to Bangkok. Kharkhuu controlled the first round against Morocco’s Imad Ahayoun and took the lead in all scorecards after three minutes of fight. The Mongolian boxer landed one of his powerful combinations in the second round and knocked out his North African rival on Day2.

Thailand’s bests won their bouts by strong technical performances at the men’s light welterweight (64kg)
Thailand’s Somchay Wongsuwan eliminated one of his main rivals India’s Manish Kaushik in a hectic contest on Day1 and he did not have the chance to relax too much. The 23-year-old Thai worked more on feet from the second round and delivered even better performance against Australia’s Billy Polkinghorn. Wongsuwan was a hard target for the newcomer Aussie boxer therefore the local favourite could win the bout and advanced to the last eight. Thailand’s next hope at the light welterweight (64kg) was National Games winner Bunjong Sinsiri who eliminated Botswana’s Pitso Mmopiemang in a spectacular contest. Thailand’s third strong success was taken by Youth Olympic Games winner and AIBA Youth World Champion Atichai Phoemsap who eliminated Chinese Taipei’s Rio 2016 Olympian Lai Chu En.

Ruzmetov and Marvin worked strongly at the light heavyweight (81kg)
Uzbekistan’s AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships silver medallist Dilshodbek Ruzmetov received the right at the very first time this year to compete for their nation in the elite level. The 20-year-old Uzbek was stronger than Kazakhstan’s Dinislam Abdeshev and landed more effective punches in their meeting. Following Ruzmetov’s excellent performance in the preliminary round, another top boxer of the light heavyweight (81kg) shined in the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament. Philippines’ John Nobel Marvin started a bit slowly against Morocco’s Mohammed Assaghir but from the second round he turned up the heat. Marvin, who claimed silver medal in the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships, overwhelmed his North African rival in the third when the referee stopped their unequal contest.
