Laos Boxing plans to join the international events in 2024
The management of the Laos Boxing confirmed their plans for 2024 and the country plans also to join the international stage despite their limited resources.
The Secretary General in Laos Boxing, Mr. Somphone Maneekam will be responsible for their national events and training programs in 2024. Laos is dreaming about the Olympic Games and the country’s management will work hard to achieve this goal.
The Laos Amateur Boxing Federation arranged its National Elite Boxing Championships at the National Sports Institute a few weeks ago, which was their main selection event for the upcoming goals. Altogether 26 women and 60 men boxers competed from 16 different clubs in the new edition of the Elite National Championships.
Four girls and eight boys earned their gold medals including their most experienced international boxer, the SEA Games medallist Khamphouvanh Khamsathone, who defeated top boxers in the Asian competitions.
Laos returned to the international competitions on May 2022 after three years of hiatus due to the lockdowns. The Southeast Asian country competed in the SEA Games in 2023 and their athletes bagged three impressive bronze medals in Phnom Penh, Cambodia last May.
Laos is planning to participate at the 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Bangkok, Thailand which will be starting on May 23. The event will be the final chance for all of the boxers throughout the world to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The Laos National President’s Cup for the elite female and male boxers will take place on July 10-13 just before Paris. The next edition of the Laos National Boxing Championships is scheduled to be hosted later this year, on November 27-30.
Laos has been preparing to the 2025 Southeast Asian Games as well which will take place in three different cities in Thailand, in Bangkok, Chonburi and Songkhla.
