Kyrgyzstan named its 7-strong team for the 1st World Olympic Qualifier

Kyrgyzstan will send seven boxer to the 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event to Busto Arsizio, Italy which opens with its first competition day on March 3.

Kyrgyzstan achieved a historic bronze medal at the 2023 Men’s Elite World Boxing Championships in Tashkent but their boxers reached only the quarter-finals at the Asian Games last September. None of the Kyrgyz boxers were able to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics yet but their seven-strong team has strong potential in Italy.

The head coach Mr. Daniyar Tologon Uulu, Mr. Ulan Sagynbayev and their former World Cup bronze medallist boxer, Mr. Taalaibek Kadyraliev selected the team for the 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event. The Kyrgyz national team competed at the Boxam Tournament and spent two weeks in the Spanish International Training Camp in La Nucia.

Nurzhigit Dyushebayev replaced their boxing icon, the Asian Champion Azat Usenaliev in this Olympic cycle at the men’s flyweight (51kg) but he reached the Top8 at the Asian Games and also at the World Boxing Championships.

Munarbek Seyitbek Uulu is Kyrgyzstan’s first ever boxer who earned a medal in a World Boxing Championships, he completed this mission on May 2023. The bronze medallist from Tashkent won his last two international competitions as preparations for Busto Arsizio.

There are huge rivalries at the light welterweight (63.5kg) where Mirzokhid Imamnazarov, Askat Kultayev and Almaz Orozbekov are all strong boxers. The coaching staff selected the Asian U22 silver medallist Imamnazarov this time who worked hard in the Spanish training camp in La Nucia.

Syrgak Abdyzhapar Uulu replaced the Asian bronze medallist Nuradin Rustambek Uulu at the light middleweight (71kg) following his national title in December. Omurbek Bekzhigit Uulu joined the national team in 2019 and the Asian bronze medallist is ready to smash many of his opponents at the light heavyweight (80kg). Kyrgyzstan’s last Olympian boxer, the 33-year-old Erkin Adylbek Uulu is three-times Asian Championships bronze medallist and the most experienced in the national team. Bakyt Toktosun Uulu, an U22 boxer, moved up to the super heavyweight (+92kg) last year but he claimed medals in the preparation tournaments.
