Komal, Naorem Chanu, Kuldeep Singh and Akash Gorkha amazed in the Indian National School Games

The Indian National School Games was held in the city of Guwahati, Assam region which hosted also in the AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships in 2017. India’s main future hopes and best juniors as Naorem Babyrojisana Chanu, Thongam Kunjarani Devi, Komal, Kuldeep Singh, Akash Gorkha, Harsh Gill and Aman Singh Bisht were the key gold medallists in Guwahati.
India hosted the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in New Delhi and one of their next activities was a competition for their school boxers. The junior boxers could attend in the National School Games in Guwahati and some of the best schoolboys and schoolgirls also joined to compete.
The Indian juniors are planning to take part in the upcoming main events in 2019 including the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships in the United Arab Emirates later this year. The women boxers could fight in fifteen weight classes in the National School Games while the men talents attended also in the official 13 categories.
The first title of the Games was taken by Kashish Bhandari who arrived from Himachal Pradesh to the event and defeated Rishika Hole at the women’s 42kg. Haryana’s Rinku controlled the final of the women’s pinweight (46kg) in Guwahati where she was too strong for Maharashtra’s Devika Ghorpade.
Following Sanjeeta’s success over Ekta Saroj at the light flyweight (48kg) a local Assam boxer Amisha Kumari Bharti won the next title of the Indian National School Games. Naorem Babyrojisana Chanu has got strong experiences from European events and those contests paid off in the final of the women’s light bantamweight (52kg) against Haryana’s Tannu.
Manipur’s No.1 in this age group Thongam Kunjarani Devi won the title of the women’s bantamweight (54kg) in Guwahati which success was her career highlight. Manipur’s second success was taken by 16-year-old Sovi Jajo at the featherweight (57kg) where she defeated Arshi Khanam in the final.
Haryana’s Pranjal Yadav was one of the youngest winners in the whole Indian National School Games as she will be turning to 14 only later this year but won the title of the light middleweight (70kg) in Guwahati. Punjab’s powerful talent Komal won two big international competitions in 2018 and she proved her strong skills in a heavy category therefore she claimed her next title.
Manipur’s Soibam Yaiphaba Singh was born in 2004 but he defeated all of his older rivals at the men’s pinweight (46kg) including Rudra Pradap Singh Dangi in the final. Punjab’s Kuldeep Singh is also a boxer from India who has got already international experiences in spite of his age of 16 and won his next national title after beating Naveen Siwach in the final of the flyweight (50kg).
Following Aditya Goud’s and Yashwardhan’s successes India’s another big hope Akash Gorkha claimed his next national title. The 16-year-old Maharashtra-based boxer produced amazing performance in the international stage in 2018 and his style was too difficult to his opponents in Guwahati as well.
Haryana’s Ajay Kumar and Chandigarh’s Aman won their categories by large margin of differences in Guwahati. Haryana’s Vinit attended in the last edition of the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships and his technical skills were enough to beat Deepanshu Tewatia in the final of the middleweight (75kg).
Harsh Gill had strong experiences also in the international competitions and he had enough boxing knowledge to beat his rivals at the light heavyweight (80kg). Madhya Pradesh’s Aman Singh Bisht is a top future hope who was born only in 2004 but he eliminated all of his experienced rivals including Junior National Champion Jugnoo.
