Khalakov, Shymbergenov, Shakhbakhsh, Iashaish and Zoirov are among the winners of Day5

The round of 32 contests were held at the bantamweight (54kg), lightweight (60kg), light middleweight (71kg) and heavyweight (92kg) in the fifth competition day at the AIBA World Boxing Championships in Belgrade, Serbia. Such Asian stars as Abdumalik Khalakov of Uzbekistan, Aslanbek Shymbergenov of Kazakhstan, Hussein Iashaish of Jordan, Daniyal Shakhbakhsh of Iran and Shakhobiddin Zoirov of Uzbekistan were among the winners of the two long sessions today.

The following 20 Asian nations are attending in the AIBA World Boxing Championships in Belgrade: Fair Chance Team, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, South Korea, Laos, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Tajikistan, Chinese Taipei, and Uzbekistan.

Uzbekistan’s Shakhobiddin Zoirov eliminated a local favourite

Uzbekistan’s AIBA World Champion, ASBC Asian Champion Shakhobiddin Zoirov moved up to the new bantamweight (54kg) in the recent weeks and he proved highly motivated boxing in the afternoon session of the fifth competition day. The Uzbek faced with a dangerous rival, Tamir Galanov who switched from Russia to Serbia following his bronze medal at the Hamburg 2017 AIBA World Boxing Championships. The 32-year-old local boxer had good footwork but Zoirov landed double-times more shots than the Serbian and took the lead. Zoirov dictated the tempo, used more tactical weapons and can prepare to his next contest in the last 16.

Mongolia won an Asian battle at the bantamweight

Mongolia’s Bayarsaikhan Enkh-Amgalan claimed bronze medal at the Bangkok 2017 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships and after four years of hard work, he received the right to compete in a top elite competition. The 22-year-old Mongolian pressurized Thailand Boxing Federation’s Pathipan Uthaida whose father competed in the international events in the 1990s. The younger Thai talent was not able to keep the attacking Mongolian on long and Enkh-Amgalan won their tactical bantamweight (54kg) bout. Following Chinzorig Baatarsukh’s impressive success on Day4, the young Bayarsaikhan Enkh-Amgalan also delivered a top performance.

Kyrgyzstan’s Sanzhai Seidakmatov continued the country’s pathway in Belgrade

Kyrgyzstan’s Sanzhai Seidakmatov competed in the 2017 and 2018 editions of the ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships and at the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships three years ago. The Kyrgyz boxer moved down to the bantamweight (54kg) and won their National Championships last month. Seidakmatov had a tough rival as first, Ecuador’s Manuel Chusin who returned to the national team after a break but he had strong experiences to be competitive in this contest. The Kyrgyz boxer shared his power well and continued the country’s impressive winning path in the Serbian capital.

“I lost my first contests in the Budapest 2018 AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships and it is an amazing feeling that I could win this preliminary bout in Belgrade. I was faster than my Ecuadorian opponent and that was the difference between us today,” said Kyrgyzstan’s Sanzhai Seidakmatov after a tough bantamweight (54kg) bout.

Kazakhstan’s Makhmud Sabyrkhan impressed on Day5

Kazakhstan’s Makhmud Sabyrkhan won the gold medal at the 2018 and 2019 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships following his junior title in 2017. The 20-year-old talent opened his elite campaign with gold medals at the Bocskai Memorial Tournament, Boxam Tournament and other preparation competitions. Sabyrkhan competes at the bantamweight (54kg) in Belgrade and he impressed in the event with his amazing technical skills. The Kazakh landed several clear punches in the first round against South Korea’s former AIBA World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Kim In Kyu. He continued that performance until the very end of the bout and marched to the last 16 in the championship.

Iran’s Toufan Sharifi eliminated a tough Austrian

Iran sent ten boxers to the AIBA World Boxing Championships and all of them showed excellent progress since their last international competition. Toufan Sharifi claimed medal at the Ahmet Comert Tournament in 2020 and he tried to use his jabs to stop Austria’s lone boxer, Aleksandar Mraovic in the round of 32 at the heavyweight (92kg). The Austrian received two warnings from the referee during the bout due to his several faults while Sharifi found also the right rhythm to beat Mraovic in the competition.

India’s Sanjeet eliminated his Russian rival in Belgrade

India’s 24-year-old Sanjeet bagged gold medal at the Dubai 2021 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships and he reached the quarter-finals at the 2019 AIBA World Boxing Championships. Sanjeet is in strong progressive period and he landed nice jabs in the first round against Russian Boxing Federation’s Andrey Stotskiy who was gold medallist in the 2012 AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships. Sanjeet was patient in the bout and he overcame his Russian opponent with tough jabs winning this important contest.

Kazakhstan’s Aibek Oralbay opened his campaign with a triumph

Kazakhstan’s Youth Olympic Games winner and ASBC Asian Youth Champion Aibek Oralbay replaced Vasiliy Levit in the national team at the heavyweight (92kg) and the 21-year-old talent looked nervous in his debuting contest in Belgrade. The Kazakh boxer found the holes on his Polish opponent’s defence and Mateusz Bereznicki received these tough jabs. Oralbay did not deliver his best performance today but in spite of the Polish boxer’s enthusiasm and attacks in the third round, he won the bout by split decision.

Jordan’s Hussein Iashaish and Uzbekistan’s Madiyar Saidrakhimov dominated their heavyweight contests

Uzbekistan’s World Military Games winner Madiyar Saidrakhimov has got five years of international experiences but the 24-year-old boxer competes in his first AIBA World Boxing Championships. The Uzbek heavyweight (92kg) boxer controlled all of the three rounds against Belarus’ Uladzislau Smiahlikau and advanced to the last 16. Another top Asian boxer in this weight category, Jordan’s three-time ASBC medallist Hussein Iashaish surprised Slovakia’s David Michalek with his new tactical elements. The referee counted the Slovakian twice in the bout therefore Iashaish won the bout by large margin of difference.

“I tried to use a bit different tactic than in my previous competitions and did not pressurize my opponent so hard this time. I tried to work from longer distance, calmed down and used the best moments to land shots. The preparation was strong to this competition and I will do my best in the next rounds as well,” said Jordan’s Hussein Iashaish after his easy success.

Abdumalik Khalakov dominated his first contest

Uzbekistan’s promising star, the currently 21-year-old Abdumalik Khalakov won all of the three big youth championships in 2018 and he was involved to their top elite national squad this year. Dovron Gafurov’s pupil landed tough punches in the first round against North Macedonia’s Jasin Ljama and he proved his dominancy today. Khalakov used his counter-attacking style from the second round and played with his European opponent in the second and third rounds. Khalakov is in top form and he is ready to make his real breakthrough among the elite boxers at the very first time.

Samatali Toltayev eliminated Khunatip Pidnuch in an exciting bout

Kazakhstan’s ASBC Asian Youth Champion Samatali Toltayev has got now nearly four years of experiences in the elite national team and he could do his very best against Thailand Boxing Federation’s Khunatip Pidnuch in the round of 32. The 22-year-old Kazakh started the exciting battle better and he had the advantage on the scorecards in Belgrade. Pidnuch, who switched from Muay Thai to boxing only in 2019, returned to the contest in the second round with amazing combinations therefore the final verdict was depended on their performance in the third. Toltayev increased his tempo and his excellent final run was enough to beat the 21-year-old Thai lightweight (60kg) talent.

Seyitbek Uulu and Shakhbaksh are in the last 16

Kyrgyzstan’s Munarbek Seyitbek Uulu was more experienced than Ukraine’s new National Champion Maksym Zhyharov but he amazed with his impressive technical skills and used his distance well to land punches especially in the second and third rounds. The 25-year-old Kyrgyz stopped the Ukrainian attacks effectively and he advanced to the last 16 continuing his nation’s excellent performance in Belgrade. Iran’s ASBC Asian Boxing Championships silver medallist Daniyal Shakhbaksh also proved his wonderful technical skills in his second contest and defeated Mexico’s Gustavo Rivera with virtuoso style.

Kazakhstan’s Aslanbek Shymbergenov defeated Shakhram Giyasov

Kazakhstan’s Aslanbek Shymbergenov was No.2 in his country in the recent three years behind Ablaikhan Zhussupov but the new light middleweight (71kg) opened his chance to get a top result once again following silver at the 2018 Asian Games. Shymbergenov was excellent also in the World Series of Boxing and those experiences paid off against Uzbekistan’s star Shakhram Giyasov today. The Uzbek, who claimed gold at the Hamburg 2017 AIBA World Boxing Championships, was not able to find the best weapons against the taller Kazakh who won one of the final-level contests.
