Kazakhstan’s stars and new heroes earned the titles at the Republic of Kazakhstan President’s Cup

The last fifth day of boxing was held at the 7th edition of the Republic of Kazakhstan President’s Cup in the capital city of the Central Asian boxing power in Nur-Sultan. Several big stars and young hopes shined in the powerful event where Rustam Rustamov caused the biggest sensation with his gold in the men’s part of the event. Kyzaibay defeated his top national rival Shekerbekova before 19-year-old Nadezhda Ryabets won her first elite tournament gold.
The gold, silver and bronze medalists received money prizes at the Republic of Kazakhstan President’s Cup. The following nations attended in the Republic of Kazakhstan President’s Cup in Nur-Sultan: Algeria, Bulgaria, China, Georgia, India, host Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Philippines, Russia, Syria, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Three Confederations the Asian, the European and the African sent their bests to the international event.

Kyzaibay won the dream final at the women’s flyweight (51kg)
The dream final of the women’s flyweight (51kg) is realized after the semi-finals of the Republic of Kazakhstan President’s Cup. Nazym Kyzaibay, who claimed two titles in the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships during her career, was technically better than her main rival in the final. AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships silver medallist Zhaina Shekerbekova and Kyzaibay have been making excellent finals since many years and their rivalry continued in the President’s Cup. The four-year younger Kyzaibay was too quick for Shekerbekova on their re-match and won the gold of the strong international event.

Volosenko defeated India’s 19-year-old Parveen in the final of the women’s lightweight (60kg)
Kazakhstan’s Rimma Volosenko has got experiences from all levels of boxing excluding the Olympic Games but she won high number of international tournaments in the recent four years. The 27-year-old Kazakh lightweight (60kg) boxer had to meet for the gold medal with India’s teenage hope Parveen who bowed out Kazakhstan’s AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Karina Ibragimova in the semi-finals. Volosenko used her previous experiences to keep the control of their contest which meant she won her next gold medal in the President’s Cup.

Kazakhstan’s Dariga Shakimova opened her campaign at women’s welterweight (69kg) with a gold medal in Nur-Sultan
Kazakhstan’s Rio 2016 Olympic Games bronze medallist and 2015 ASBC Asian Women’s Champion Dariga Shakimova moved down to the welterweight (69kg) in the recent months. Shakimova won her impressive semi-final against Russia’s Strandja Memorial Tournament winner Elmira Azizova which was one of her key contests in Nur-Sultan. Kazakhstan’s experienced boxer had to face for the title with China’s Cologne Boxing World Cup winner Yang Liu. The Chinese boxer tried to use her patient style but Shakimova’s aggressive style paid off in their final which delivered the next gold for Kazakhstan.

Kazakhstan’s 19-year-old Nadezhda Ryabets claimed her first elite title
Kazakhstan’s Nadezhda Ryabets was AIBA Women’s Junior World Champion in 2015 and she claimed gold at the Bangkok 2018 ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Youth Boxing Championships. The 19-year-old talent had tough road to the finals of the Republic of Kazakhstan President’s Cup but she was able to manage to win these contests. Ryabets is relatively small at the middleweight (75kg) but her pressurizing style was too strong for Russia’s Elena Gapeshina in the final as well. The final verdict was 4:1 in the favour of Ryabets which was her first elite tournament title.

Saken Bibossynov won the narrowest final of the President’s Cup
Kazakhstan’s Bocskai Memorial Tournament winner and WSB Team Champion Saken Bibossynov moved ahead step by step in the national ranking and after four years of hard work he arrived to the top of the podium at the President’s Cup. The 22-year-old boxer is one of the members of the new wave in Kazakhstan’s boxing life who realized his gold medal expectations in Nur-Sultan. Bibossynov had to meet with a super talented youngster ASBC Asian Junior Champion and AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Makhmud Sabyrkhan who was a competitive opponent in the final. Bibossynov had the routine from previous elite competitions which decided their narrow final.

Kazakhstan’s Rustam Rustamov won the tough bantamweight (57kg)
Kazakhstan’s Rustam Rustamov has been attending in the international events since 2010 but after a few poor years in the sport he returned with top skills this year. Rustamov, who trains in the Almaty region, caused the biggest surprise of the men’s part of the semi-finals with his success over Kazakhstan’s AIBA World Champion Kairat Yeraliyev and advanced to the finals. Rustamov was still hungry for the next success and defeated Kazakhstan’s Incheon 2014 Asian Games winner and London 2012 Olympian Ilyas Suleimenov for the title capturing an unexpected gold medal in Nur-Sultan.

India’s Shiva Thapa found back to his winning path in 2019
India’s Shiva Thapa is one of the most experienced Asian boxers who has been competing internationally since 2009 when he has done his debut as a junior. He claimed gold medal already in the Amman 2013 ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships but the two-time Olympian had a few difficulties after Rio de Janeiro. The Indian hope moved up to the light welterweight (63kg) in the recent months and defeated all of his tough opponents in Nur-Sultan. Thapa walked over to the gold medal following his opponent Kazakhstan’s two-time ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships silver medallist Zakir Safiullin was unable to box against him due his injury.

Ablaikhan Zhussupov proved Kazakhstan has a superb welterweight (69kg) boxer again
Kazakhstan dominated and won the gold medals at the welterweight (69kg) in the recent four editions of the Olympic Games. Their Youth Olympic Games winner Ablaikhan Zhussupov achieved bronze at the Hamburg 2017 AIBA World Boxing Championships and he proved excellent performance this year. The 22-year-old Rio Olympian eliminated Algeria’s Chemseddine Kramou, Kyrgyzstan’s Daniyar Damirdin Uulu and Uzbekistan’s Fazliddin Meliboev during his road to the final. Zhussupov impressed in his fourth bout in Nur-Sultan once again and defeated Kazakhstan’s Youth Olympic Games silver medallist 19-year-old Talgat Shayken for the gold medal.
