Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, India and China shared the women’s youth titles in Astana

Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, India and China shared the titles in the women’s finals at the ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships in Astana today.

Uzbekistan’s Jasmin Tokhirova, the Asian Junior Champion, was highly motivated in the first round of her final against Chinese Taipei’s Yang Yin Chi and she found the best range in time. The Japanese referee counted Yang once in the end of the first round therefore Tokhirova had the clear advantage after the opener of this minimumweight (48kg) final. Yang moved forward more after that moment but Tokhirova had strong tactical repertoires to beat her today.

India’s Laxmi was too strong for Mongolia’s Enkh-Amgalan Nomundari in the next final contest, he landed his tough combinations in the first round immediately. The Indian light flyweight (50kg) boxer finished the job in the second round and the referee stopped the bout and confirmed Laxmi’s RSC victory.

India’s new sensation Nisha and Kazakhstan’s Bagzhan Otynbay advanced to the final of the women’s flyweight (52kg) in Astana. The Indian had the advantage on the scorecards after three minutes of fight and she was faster than her Kazakh opponent in the exchanges. Otynbay was not able to change her tempo in this final contest therefore Nisha earned India’s fourth gold medal in the youth part of the championship.

Kazakhstan’s Ayazhan Sydyk and India’s Tamanna both impressed in the previous championships and the two stars had the meet each other for the first time. The Kazakh bantamweight (54kg) boxer used the best strategy against the Indian and she landed not only single shots but several combinations. The 17-year-old Sydyk enjoyed the last round of the final in the front of the home crows and she became Kazakhstan’s first champion in Astana.

Kazakhstan’s Ayazhan Yermek has just joined from the junior age group to the youth squad with impressive pedigree. The local favourite had the speed advantage in her final contest against Uzbekistan’s Feruza Sharipova at the women’s featherweight (57kg). The judges favoured Sydyk 20:18 in all of the scorecards after two rounds and her best weapon, the longer hands delivered a gold medal for the Kazakh girl.

Kazakhstan’s Junior World Champion Tolganay Kassymkhan and India’s titleholder Nikita Chand met in the battle of the stars in the final of the women’s lightweight (60kg). The younger Kazakh had a brave attempt to beat the Indian No.1 and she boxed over her previous level in this final. Kassymkhan is spending her first year in the youth age group but she had the punching power in this final to surprise the 18-year-old Indian. Kassymkhan was still enough fresh in the third round to handle the Indian pressure and she won her second Asian title after her first in last November.

Uzbekistan’s Odinakhon Ismoilova has not only impressive boxing shoes but she has so amazing technical skills despite her relatively low number of international contests. The Uzbek light welterweight (63kg) boxer found the best distance against India’s Shrusthi Sachin Sathe in the first round and she could follow the same tactics in the second. The Uzbek used up her physical abilities to keep the distance and her speed was the difference between them in Astana today, earning her first Asian title.

China’s Dina Shanatibieke impressed in the recent Ibraimov Prizes Tournament in Almaty and she returned to Kazakhstan in shape. The Chinese welterweight (66kg) boxer had the same strong jabs in the first round as Kazakhstan’s Uldana Taubay’s ones therefore their opener was not a decision making period. The Xinjiang-based Chinese girl used her height advantage better in the second round but Taubay had the impressive last round to make a U-turn and the Kazakh talent kept the title on home soil.

China’s Alimire Abudureyimu knew her Kazakh opponent, Mariya Sidorenko and she tried to use her strengths to make the difference in the first round of their light middleweight (70kg) final. The technician Abudureyimu had nice combinations in the first and second rounds from longer range against the aggressive local boxer. Sidorenko was not able to follow the Chinese girl in this contest, her footwork looked too slow for that therefore Abudureyimu celebrated her career highlight today.

Kazakhstan’s Shugyla Nalibay is the titleholder of the women’s youth middleweight (75kg) and she prepared well to this championship to defend her throne. Nalibay was patient in the first round against India’s Rudrika which was a tactical opening in their final bout but she worked better in the second. The 18-year-old Kazakh defeated her Indian opponent in the Adriatic Pearl Youth Boxing Cup in Montenegro two months ago and she was able to repeat their performance on their important re-match.

Kazakhstan’s Aruzhan Zeinollayeva and India’s Asian Youth silver medallist Khushi Pooniya both are experienced light heavyweight (81kg) boxers in the international stage. The younger 17-year-old Kazakh prepared well from her Indian opponent and she found Pooniya’s weak points in the first round. The Indian worked better in the second round but Zeinollayeva had the advantage in three out of the five scorecards after six minutes. Zeinollayeva competed for the juniors in 2023 and she switched her previous silver into a youth gold in Astana.

Uzbekistan’s two-time Asian Junior Champion Sobirakhon Shakhobiddinova and her final opponent, Kazakhstan’s Panar Seitkhankyzy both joined the youth age group this year. The Uzbek heavyweight (+80kg) boxer was waited for the Kazakh attacks and she landed her quicker jabs to overcome her rival. The 17-year-old Uzbek had the speed to land her punches whenever she wanted and she claimed her third-in-a-row Asian title but the first among the youth boxers.
