Kazakhstan is the No.1 with record number of 25 gold medals at the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships

Kazakhstan claimed exactly the half of the available gold medals in the recent ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships in Astana. Out of the 25 participating nations, 16 acquired at least one medal in the busy and long championships in Kazakhstan’s capital.

The Kazakhs bagged altogether 25 out of the 50 gold medals in the championships on home soil ahead of India which achieved 12 titles in Astana. Uzbekistan ranked as No.3 this time with their 11 gold medals but China and India both were able to get one title in Astana.

Among the U22 boxers, host Kazakhstan made a huge sweep with their 14 gold medals and topped the team standing in this age group. India proved its development with their 7 gold medals in the U22 level while surprisingly Uzbekistan bagged only four titles.

Kazakhstan was the dominant also in the youth age group, their 11 gold medals flew the team into the best ranking position. Uzbekistan’s 7 youth gold medals meant that the country could take over the Indians with their five titles in the 2006-2007 age group. China returned to the youth competition with an impressive title and Iran’s new super heavyweight (+92kg) star dominated his category.

Altogether 15 countries claimed at least one medal in the U22 age group in Astana where China, Mongolia, Tajikistan and Afghanistan had finalists. Iran, Kyrgyzstan, the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Jordan, Singapore and Chinese Taipei were the further countries which achieved bronze medals in the U22 part of the competition.

Among the youth boxers, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Mongolia, Jordan and Chinese Taipei took silver medals in Astana. Vietnam, South Korea and the Philippines were the further bronze medallists in the 2006 and 2007 born boxers.

Afghanistan achieved its first ever silver medal in any of the Asian Boxing Championships since 1995 and the competition set up several new record in Astana.
