Kazakhstan earned three gold medals in the first part of the finals at the Nations Women’s Cup

The first part of the finals was held in the fifth competition day of the new 10th edition of the Nations Women’s Cup was held in Sombor, Serbia. Kazakhstan earned three gold medals in the first half of the finals in Serbia where Arailym Marat, Dina Zholaman and Lazzat Kungeibayeva are their winners.

The competition is the first international tournament in 2021 where one of our Asian boxing powers, Kazakhstan returned to with their best women boxers. The Nations Women’s Cup is a strong international female competition where the schoolgirls, junior, youth and elite boxers all can attend in Sombor.

The 10th edition of the Nations Women’s Cup is the first challenge for the girls in the new year where several of the top nations including Russia, Turkey, Morocco, Czech Republic and Belarus are also among the participating countries besides to Kazakhstan. The Nations Women’s Cup is a preparation event before the next Olympic Boxing Qualifying Events.

Kazakhstan’s first finalist, 19-year-old Arailym Marat amazed in the elite light flyweight (48kg) at the 10th Nations Women’s Cup in Sombor. She claimed silver at the 2020 Kazakhstan National Championships and in spite of the fact she is newcomer in the international stage, she won the title in Serbia. The Kazakh teenage talent eliminated Russia’s Alena Artemova in the semi-finals and continued her winning path against Slovakia’s Nicole Durikova. Marat controlled all of the rounds and celebrated her first international tournament title after the bout.

Kazakhstan’s former AIBA Women’s World Champion Dina Zholaman remained on the top at the bantamweight (54kg) in the 2020 National Championships. She will be turning to 29 this year and following 200 bouts, she was the most experienced boxer in her weight category at the 10th Nations Women’s Cup. Zholaman was too smart for Russia’s Valeria Rodionova in the semi-finals of the competition and she has done also enough to beat Serbia’s seven-years younger Jelena Zekic in the final.

Kazakhstan’s third gold medal at the Nations Women’s Cup was taken by Lazzat Kungeibayeva who also claimed the title at the Astana 2016 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships as Zholaman. The heavyweight (+81kg) boxer had the advantages against Russia’s Anna Ivanova in the final and she was able to accomplish her goal in the first international event of 2021. Kazakhstan’s fourth finalist, a newcomer in the national team, Gulsaya Yerzhan lost to Serbia’s Milena Matovic at the light heavyweight (81kg).
