Kazakhstan celebrates its National Boxing Day

The Kazakhstan National Boxing Day celebrates today which is an important milestone for them before the last part of the year. The Kazakhstan Boxing Federation is one of the strongest National Federation not only in Asia but in the entire world.
Kazakhstan started the sport during the 1920s and one of their pioneer coaches was Mr. Shokhr Boltekuly in that period. Kazakhstan’s Boxing dedicated his hard work in boxing with an international elite tournament under his name every year.
Kazakhstan amazed already in the Soviet era in the 1950s and 1960s with such strong boxers as the heavyweight Abdusalam Nurmakhanov, Vladimir Karimov, Zhandos Kukumov and Abdrashid Abdrakhmanov.
Their boxers were part of the Soviet national teams in the 1970s and 1980s when such legends as Valeriy Rachkov, Anatoliy Toropov, Serik Konakbayev, Aleksandr Miroshnichenko, Viktor Demyanenko, Serik Nurkazov, Karimzhan Abdrakhmanov, and Beybut Yeszhanov claimed several Olympic, World, European medals and titles in the USSR Nationals.
Kazakhstan became independent in 1991 and their boxers showed up in some of the international competitions already in 1992. Their first top result was achieved by Vasiliy Zhirov at the Tampere 1993 World Boxing Championships where he claimed a bronze medal.
Kazakhstan made an exceptional debut at the 1994 Asian Boxing Championships, the Asian Games and the AIBA World Cup with gold medals and several rising stars.
Vasiliy Zhirov bagged their first Olympic gold medal in 1996 which was followed by Yermakhan Ibraimov and Bekzat Sattarkhanov in 2000. Bolat Dzhumadilov, Kanatbek Chagatayev, Arkadiy Topayev, Bolat Niyazymbetov, Nurzhan Smanov, Olzhas Orazaliyev and Mukhtarkhan Dildabekov were their stars in the early years of the independence.
Kazakhstan dominated the tough welterweight in the Olympic Games between 2004 and 2016 making an amazing record in that category. Bakhtiyar Artayev, Bakhyt Sarsekbayev, Serik Sapiyev and Daniyar Yeleussinov each won the gold medals at the welterweight in those four editions of the Olympic Games.
Kazakhstan began women’s boxing in 2002 and their first medal in a World Championships was taken by Nazgul Boranbayeva in 2006. Their most successful female boxer of all-times is the multiple World Champion Nazym Kyzaibay but Zhaina Shekerbekova, Dina Zholaman, Marina Volnova, Dariga Shakimova, Natalya Bogdanova and Aida Abikeyeva also shined in several top events.
Kazakhstan is No.3 at the all-time medal table of the World Men’s Boxing Championships while the country is No.7 at the overall standings of the Women’s World Boxing Championships.
