Karbala hosted a friendly Boxing Tournament in Iraq

Iraq arranged new competitions in the recent weeks and their competition in Karbala was a success with the participation of the next generation of boxers.

A friendly tournament was held between Al-Kut Club and the Iraq Boxing Club in Karbala Governorate, organized by the regional Karbala Boxing Federation, and was marked by the presence of the Iraqi boxing champions, led by the international 2-Star Coach, Mr. Muhammad Sahib Abbas.

Karbala claimed four gold medals in the event, their young boxer, Moamel Haitham won the 70kg weight class over Mohammed Haider. Their Muhammad Akram won the lightweight (60kg) over another technician boxer Hussein Ali.

Haider from the Al-Kut Club won over boxer Ali Hassan Ali, and Hussein Abbas won in the 75 kg weight over Jaafar Muhammad in the friendly tournament.

One of the schoolboys hopes, Mohammed Shanawon achieved the title at the 44kg weight class while Haider Azhar Ali (51kg), Amir Mohammed Radhi (54kg), Hassan Al-Nashmi (57kg) and Mohammed Reda Awda (63.5kg) also shined in the competition.

Iraq has strong traditions in the heavier weight categories and their Amir Abdul Zahra (86kg), Saider Sabah Mahdi (92kg) and Mohsen Hamoud (+92kg) won these divisions in Karbala.

The international referees and judges in Karbala, Mr. Karim Qasim and Mr. Amir Qasim led the fights during the competition.

Karbala, a major city in Central Iraq with the population of 700,000, is considered one of the strongest provinces in boxing in Iraq. Their ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships bronze medallist Mohamed Abdel Hakim Al-Nashmi also lives and trains in this region and he is planning to compete in the upcoming elite international events.

Iraq competed in the recent ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships in Colombo, Sri Lanka with talented boxers. Their management is planning to send their elite, youth, junior and schoolboys athletes out of Iraq to get them more international experience.
