Jordan’s Hussein Iashaish eliminated a gold medal favourite at the AIBA World Boxing Championships

The winners of the seventh day of competition are advanced to the last 16 at the AIBA World Boxing Championships in Yekaterinburg, Russia. Boxers at the bantamweight (57kg), light heavyweight (81kg) and heavyweight (91kg) were in actions on Day7. One of the best Asian successes were delivered by Jordan’s Hussein Iashaish who eliminated a strong European favourite at the heavyweight (91kg).
The Asian teams prepared strongly to the Yekaterinburg 2019 World Boxing Championships in the recent months after the Bangkok ASBC Asian Boxing Championships and our continent has got several medal and title favourites in Russia. Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, India, China, Thailand, Philippines, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Jordan, South Korea, Kyrgyzstan and many other teams from our continent have got world class boxers.
Altogether 107 Asian elite male boxers are attending in the event from 21 nations: Afghanistan, China, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Philippines, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan, Chinese Taipei and Uzbekistan.
Mongolia’s Asian Games winner and ASBC Asian Champion Erdenebat Tsendbaatar moved down to the bantamweight (57kg) following his gold medal at the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament. The 23-year-old Mongolian used the best tactic against Kyrgyzstan’s Munarbek Seitbek Uulu and controlled all of the three rounds combining speed and attacks in strong rhythm.
India’s ASBC Asian Boxing Championships silver medallist Kavinder Singh Bisht had an Asian opponent, Chen Zhihao and he had to do his very best to eliminate the inexperienced Chinese boxer in Yekaterinburg. Uzbekistan’s Jakarta 2018 Asian Games winner and ASBC Asian Champion Mirazizbek Mirzakhalilov also proved the same strong performance as Tsendbaatar and bowed out Brazil’s Douglas De Andrade at the bantamweight (57kg).
Thailand’s Chatchai Decha Butdee is member of the national team since 2005 who claimed bronze in the Almaty 2013 edition. The Thai veteran won his opening bout by large margin of differences and he has done the same against Belgium’s Vasile Usturoi on his second appearance. Kazakhstan’s reigning AIBA World Champion at the bantamweight (57kg) Kairat Yeraliyev who had a tough fight against Venezuela’s Rio 2016 Olympic Games bronze medallist Yoel Finol but survived it and joined to the last 16.
Kazakhstan’s next strong boxer in action was Bekzad Nurdauletov who received the right at the very first time to attend in a big elite event but he was confident against another Venezuelan, Nalek Korbaj at the light heavyweight (81kg). Turkmenistan’s ASBC Asian Boxing Championships bronze medallist Nuryagdy Nuryagdyyev was slightly better than Australia’s Jack Bowen in this weight class and advanced to the last 16.
Uzbekistan’s new 20-year-old sensation Dilshodbek Ruzmetov was amazing in his preliminary bout once again and defeated DR Congo’s Peter Pita Kabeji at the light heavyweight (81kg). His compatriot AIBA World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Sanjar Tursunov eliminated a tough South American, Abner Junior Teixeira who won preparation tournaments before the start of the Yekaterinburg event.
Kazakhstan’s Rio 2016 Olympic Games silver medallist and three-time ASBC Asian Champion Vasiliy Levit dominated his preliminary fight over Slovakia’s David Michalek on Day7. The main Asian sensation of the day was delivered by Jordan’s Rio 2016 Olympian Hussein Iashaish who reduced the fighting distance successfully and defeated Italy’s European Union Champion and European U22 Champion Aziz Abbes Mouhiidine.
