Jeong Jae Deun and Bae Seung Hyun are South Korea’s great youth hopes in 2018 following their selection event

The South Korean Youth & Junior National Selection Tournament was held in the Yeongam Indoor Gymnasium where 26 new champions celebrated their titles after the finals. Jeong Hae Deun, Cho Mi Hyun and Kim Ji Ho are top future hopes in the women’s youth boxing. Bae Seung Hyun, Sun Hyun Wook and Kim Yeon Seung delivered the best performances in the men’s youth part of the selection event.
South Korea won an amazing and unexpected title in the AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships in Guwahati which was a historical success for in the female part of boxing. South Korea took also one bronze medal in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships in Bangkok but their younger hopes achieved four medals in the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships in Puerto Princesa.
Jeong Hae Deun is a top South Korean talent in women boxing who bagged already some good results therefore her success over Kim Yea Rim in the final of the flyweight (51kg) was not a surprise. The currently best South Korean youth boxer in this category six-time National Champion 17-year-old Kim Chae Won competed in the AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships in Guwahati last month and she was not able to box in the South Korean Youth & Junior National Selection Tournament.
The second gold medal in the women’s youth part of the South Korean Youth & Junior National Selection Tournament 16-year-old Cho Mi Hyun defeated Kim Yoon Ji in the final of the lightweight (60kg). Kim Ji Ho is only 16 but she was able to defend her throne in the women’s middleweight (75kg) which was her third national title in South Korea.
Jeong Jong Eun delivered a great sensation in Yeongam where he was too smart for the favourite, ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships competitor Han Sang Beom in the final of the junior featherweight (57kg). The 15-year-old Jeong has got all of the potential to get medal also in the international events in 2018.
Seo Min Je, Kang Jung Min and Park Sung Min all were born only in 2003 but the young hopes were able to get titles in the selection event in Yeongam. Hong Seung Ho, Jun Seung Hyun, Yu Gu Seok, Kim Seung Ho and Lee Sang Gyu also delivered top performance in the men’s junior part of the national event.
Kang Deok Gyeong was born only in 2001 but the 16-year-old talent was able to win the first gold medal of the youth part of the event where he defeated Park Min Hyuk in the final of the light flyweight (49kg). Jeong Ji Hoon, Lee Min Hyeok, Shin Bum Ho and Kim Byung Mo also did top performance in their youth categories.
South Korea’s youth No.1 Bae Seung Hyun was quarter-finalist in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships in Bangkok where he lost to only Uzbekistan’s eventual winner Rajabboy Atanazarov. The 17-year-old middleweight (75kg) talent was too quick for Hong Sung Min in the final of the event and defended his throne.
A top South Korean youth talent 17-year-old Sun Hyun Wook eliminated ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships silver medallist Kwak Min Hyuk in the semi-final of the light heavyweight (81kg) and he was able to continue his winning path in the final against a younger hope Hong Gi Jun.
Kim Yeon Seung did a small surprise in the final of the youth heavyweight (91kg) when he defeated ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships quarter-finalist 16-year-old Hwang San Ik. The last gold medal of the youth part of the selection event was achieved by 17-year-old Seo Soon Jong who defeated Kang Jin Ku in the final of the super heavyweight (+91kg).
