Philippines’ experienced boxing official Mrs. Karina Picson was the Supervisor of the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships in Bangkok, Thailand who has done her debut in this official position successfully.
Mrs. Karina Picson, who has been working together with her husband Ed in the boxing world, shared us her thoughts about this event, her opinion about upcoming events and the performance of the Filipino team.
“I have been here in the Coordination visit in Bangkok a few weeks before the start of the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships and the first negotiations were also fruitful with the Thai organizers. We had to change only tiny things and some adjustments following the Coordination visit during the competition period of the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships.
My ITO staff together with my Deputy Supervisor worked well in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships in Bangkok and I am really proud of their attitude and job in the seven-day long competition.
Our Referees & Judges also worked hard to the success of the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships in Bangkok and I think they did their very best to do high standard in this important event. Some of them need more experiences in the major international competitions but we are in the beginning of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic era and we have got time to educate all of our officials to the highest possible level.
The Filipino team was a disappointment for me in the competition as we expected at least 1-2 medals from them in Bangkok. Hopefully it was a good lesson for them to train even harder in the future and did better in the upcoming challenges.
The next edition of the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships will be held in the Philippines in my home country in a few weeks. We are so excited about this continental event which will be held in Puerto Princesa and our junior team could be enough strong to take for us top results.
Our best juniors are in a training camp in Korat and some of our youth boxers who competed here in Bangkok also joined to the sparring,”
said the Supervisor of the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships, Mrs. Karina Picson.
