The Executive Director of the Association of the Boxing Alliances in the Philippines Mr. Edgar Picson is member of the ASBC Competition Commission who worked hard for the success of the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships.
Philippines hosted the current edition ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships in the picturesque island of Palawan in Puerto Princesa in August 2-7 and Mr. Edgar Picson besides to her wife Competition Manager Mrs. Karina Picson was the engine of the competition’s success.
“The Philippine boxing team claimed two gold medals in the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships in Puerto Princesa therefore of course I am really satisfied of the performance of our youngsters.
To be honest we were really disappointed after Criz Russu Laurente’s loss in the quarter-final, he was our best hope and main gold medal contender in the event. Next year he can join to the youth level and could be in the team with Criztian Pitt Laurente in the important year when the Youth Olympic Games will be also held.
Kenneth De La Pena had strong heart but we all surprised about his performance in Puerto Princesa where he won the title of the pinweight (46kg). John Vincent Pangga is spending his first year in the junior age group therefore his gold is an extra performance from him.
The level of the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships here in Puerto Princesa was amazing, all of the officials, coaches and experts could see the development of the Asian junior boxers in Palawan.
Philippines has got 7,000 islands and sometimes it is hard to collect all of our best boxers and keep them under control of the Association of the Boxing Alliances in the Philippines. We will be focusing more to gather the best boxers from the provinces even better than in the previous years to give them training programs and chance for development.
We were totally focusing to the success of the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships in the recent two months. I flew between Manila and Puerto Princesa several times in the recent weeks to discuss all issues with the government of the island.
We had several issues before the start of the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships but thankfully we have been supported by several people to host a successful event and not only from the Philippines but foreigners were also among those contributors as well.
In the upcoming weeks of August we will have further duties for our boxers, the Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and the Hamburg 2017 AIBA World Boxing Championships in Germany. In the SEA Games we will meet with our main regional rival, the Thai team but we are planning to beat all of the squads in Kuala Lumpur,“
said Mr. Edgar Picson after the finals of the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships in Puerto Princesa.
