Indonesia’s new event, the Popnas started in Jakarta

Indonesia increased its activities in the recent two months and their new event, the Student National Sports Week, the so-called Popnas has started in Jakarta.
Their Indonesian National Championships for all age groups finished in Palu City with great success and the crowd could saw several new future hopes.
The event has strong traditions from the past and the current is the 17th editions in the competition’s long history. The Indonesian Boxing Federation has just celebrated its 66th anniversary and their management continues to host more competitions.
The women’s light flyweight (50kg) had four quarter-final contests in the Games and Jakarta’s Fani Afnan Janati had the strong performance to stop Andini Uru Hida in the second round of their bout.
Keila Gultom defeated her opponent Katarina Jeklin Piter unanimously while Siti Nadyap Harahap and Desvita were the further winners at the women’s light flyweight (50kg) in the second session of the Popnas.
Clara Mellya Pattipeilohy had a clear advantage on the judges’ scorecards after two rounds but she finished the job against Randa Anayah Naurah Amand in the third to win their flyweight (52kg) quarter-final.
Sayna Safira outpointed Jasmine Ceta Chaerudin at the women’s bantamweight (54kg) while Jakarta’s Miranda Makaronggala had the same unanimous success over Marchella Nabil Isnanda in this category.
The men’s minimumweight (48kg) is always one of the strongest categories in Indonesia and the quarter-finals delivered great battles and the winners were Syah Jihan, Mubin Moni, Rafiza Arfa Gunawan and Michael Gerald Heatubin.
Pius Nikolaus Purba, Ferdy Trisius Hosea Tinam of Jakarta and Roney Messi Yohanes Somba all won their men’s bantamweight (54kg) contests by unanimous decision while Gabriel Prasetyo Manopo stopped his opponent, Muhammad Maulana in the quarter-final stage.
Bali’s new sensation, Mario Vegas Bere Rudji dominated his lightweight (60kg) quarter-final over Dzubyan Ghanim Bobonaro but Willy Kenzo Hutajulu, Givan Wahyu Setiawan and Zul Fandi Ardiansyah are also semi-finalists in Jakarta.
Frederikus Heronimus Dapp won the first welterweight (67kg) quarter-final in the event, he was too smart for Gilbert Wisdom Efrata But. Melky Sedek Napitupulu, Irnanda Firmanda and Yeremia Erwin Hanuebi were the further semi-finalists in this weight class.
