The light flyweight (49kg) was the biggest question for their head coach to decide the member of the squad. ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships quarter-finalist Kornelis Kwangu Langu of Bali fought for the place with National Games winner Ferdinan B. Kase. Their head coach finally selected Kornelis Kwangu Langu who has got more experiences in the international level and competed in the last two editions of the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships.
Former Southeast Asian Games winner veteran Julio Bria replaced by Aldoms Suguro this time who will be turning to 22 only later this year. Indonesia’s new flyweight (52kg) boxer competed in the 2012 AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships in Armenia and since then he joined to the elite level winning a few national tournaments in Indonesia. Suguro achieved silver medal in their National Games last September but he is a very talented boxer whose skills could be enough to do surprises in Tashkent.
Simon Makerawe is a newcomer in the national team while their National Games winner Sunan Agung Amoragam is not able to box in the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships in Tashkent. Makerawe, who trains in the city of Bogor, claimed gold medal in the Maluku Governor Cup in Ambon.
Farrand Papendang competed in the last edition of the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships in Bangkok where he won his first preliminary bout. The 24-year-old lightweight (60kg) boxer achieved also bronze in the 2015 Southeast Asian Games therefore his international experiences are enough to compete well in his second ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships in Tashkent.
Saroha Tua Lumban Tobing will be turning to 20 only later this year and he is among the country’s best talents. The Sumatra-based light welterweight (64kg) boxer claimed bronze medal in the last edition of the Indonesian National Games. Maluku Governor Cup winner Brama Hendra Betaubun is Indonesia’s next middleweight (75kg) hope who replaced Southeast Asian Games winner Alex Tatontos in the team.
Richard Oscar Laim is also a new face in the national team who will be competing at the light heavyweight (81kg) in Tashkent. Bekasi’s 19-year-old Brandon Joey Haurissa began boxing only in 2014 but three years of experiences in our sport were enough to reach the national team and received the right to represent Indonesia at the heavyweight (91kg).
