India’s icon Mary Kom celebrates her birthday at the Boxam Tournament – “I am so excited to return to the international events”
India’s six-time AIBA Women’s World Champion and five-times ASBC Asian Women’s Champion Chungneijang Mary Kom Hmangte arrived to Castellon de la Plana with her teammates to compete at the 35th Boxam International Boxing Tournament in Spain. She celebrates her 38th birthday today therefore Mary Kom is so excited to return to the international boxing events following many difficulties.
She was not the member of the Indian team in their last European tour therefore the Boxam Tournament is her real comeback after one year of break. ASBC President Mr. Anas Alotaiba and the whole ASBC management send her Happy Birthday wishes and all the best at the Boxam Tournament.
“What does it mean for me that I am here in the Boxam Tournament in Spain? It is so exciting to return to the competitions for me, I am looking forward my first contest in Castellon de la Plana. The Boxam Tournament is a strong international event therefore I am expecting good fights in Spain.
Sometimes you win a game, sometimes you lose, but this is part of the sport and for me the Boxam Tournament is only my first preparation event. I have already qualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games and all of my focus is on that to achieve my next highlight.
The recent one year was horroristic, everybody scared during the Covid-19 pandemic and it was also not so easy for us to continue our training sessions with the lot of restrictions. We have to follow the strong safety measures here in the Boxam Tournament, we have to stay healthy and keep the competition out of Coronavirus. Our team is also managing the safety procedures therefore we can keep the focus to the event,” said India’s national boxing icon Chungneijang Mary Kom Hmangte.
