India won elite finals at the Mustafa Hajrulahovic Memorial Tournament

The Indian elite boxers impressed at the 21st edition of the Mustafa Hajrulahovic Talijan Memorial Tournament which was held for the elite and youth athletes in the capital city of Bosnia & Herzegovina, in Sarajevo.

The competition venue was the fantastic Hotel Hills Sarajevo Congress and Termal Spa Resort in Bosnia & Herzegovina’s heart. The international elite and youth event was named after Division General Mr. Mustafa Hajrulahovic Talijan, Bosnia & Herzegovina’s army commander and hero.

Afghanistan, Austria, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia, Hungary, India, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Palestine, Poland, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Sweden are the participating nations in the Hajrulahovic Memorial.

India’s former Women’s World Championships silver medallist Manju Rani is an excellent female boxer who moved up to the light flyweight (50kg). She was too strong and quick for Afghanistan’s lone woman participant in Sarajevo, Sadia Bromand, the referee stopped their contest in the third round.

India’s younger hope, Barun Singh Shagolshem competed mostly in youth competitions in the past but he had the outstanding technical skills to beat Poland’s Jakub Slominski at the men’s flyweight (51kg) final.

India’s 27-year-old Manish Kaushik, the former World Championships bronze medallist, returned to the international stage in Sarajevo and he defeated Palestine’s Mohammed Soud in the final of the light welterweight (63.5kg).

India’s Naveen Kumar had an excellent performance in the final of the heavyweight (92kg) against Poland’s European Games bronze medallist Mateusz Bereznicki and he bagged the South Asian boxing power’s next title.
