India is the No.1 in the Asian Games Test Event in Jakarta where Lin Yu Ting impressed the judges

The boxing tournament of the Asian Games Test Event finished with its 10 women and men finals in the Indonesian capital in Jakarta. The competition was an active preparation for the local organizers before the main multisport event of the year. India became the most successful nation in the Asian Games Test Event with their five gold medals in Jakarta where Chinese Taipei’s Lin Yu Ting proved she is a world class female boxer.
Jakarta will be the host of the upcoming Asian Games which will be taking place from August 18 until September 2. Boxing is a traditional sport in the official program of the Asian Games and all of our continents’ best boxers have been preparing hard to be competitive in the multisport event in August.
Chinese Taipei’s defending ASBC Asian Women’s Champion and Best Boxer of that Ho Chi Minh City event Lin Yu Ting moved back to the flyweight (51kg) but she was produced top performance against Japan’s AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Madoka Wada and Indonesia’s Aldriani Beatrichx Suguro during her road to the finals. Lin’s final opponent was Thailand’s Thanthip Wannaphrom in the gold medal bout but Chinese Taipei’s pride was impressed once again and bagged the title.
Thailand’s FISU University World Champion Ratchadaporn Saoto moved down to the featherweight (57kg) and she defeated Chinese Taipei’s ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Boxing Championships bronze medallist Huang Hsiao Wen and India’s AIBA Youth World Champion Shashi Chopra in the Asian Games Test Event. The third gold medal in the women part of the competition was achieved by India’s veteran Ramilal Pavitra who defeated Thailand’s next woman boxer Nilawan Techasuep in the final of the lightweight (60kg).
Indonesia’s 2015 President’s Cup winner Mario Kali returned to his original light flyweight (49kg) and advanced to the final after beating Chinese Taipei’s FISU University World Boxing Championships silver medallist Tu Po Wei and Japan’s No.1 Tomoya Tsuboi. Kali was tried to find Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympian Shyam Kumar Kakara’s weak points but his Indian opponent was slightly better in the final.
Philippines’ AIBA World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Rogen Ladon moved up to the flyweight (52kg) in the recent months and overcame in the attacks Thailand’s Kritiphak Duangnut in the semi-final. The ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships silver medallist Filipino star was not able to repeat that strong performance in the final against India’s National Trials silver medallist Salman Anwar Shaikh and suffered a surprise loss in the Asian Games Test Event.
Thailand’s experienced Yuttapong Tongdee has been fighting for the top place in the national team to represent his country in the Asian Games in August therefore he was in superb form at the bantamweight (56kg). The 24-year-old Thai hope used strong combinations to keep the safest distance when he met with Philippines’ younger talent Ryan Moreno which delivered a sensational gold for Tongdee.
Manish Kaushik won their National Championships and the Indian Open Boxing Tournament with world class performance beating Cuban, Filipino, Mongolian and Indian stars on those events. The 21-year-old lightweight (60kg) boxer eliminated Chinese Taipei’s Rio 2016 Olympian Lai Chu En in the semi-final and he was unstoppable in the gold medal bout when he was too quick for Japan’s Rentaro Kimura.
India’s ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships silver medallist Ashish Kulhriya exceeded the previous expectations when he eliminated Japan’s Rio 2016 Olympian Daisuke Narimatsu in the quarter-final of the light welterweight (64kg). The young Indian hope, who was born in 1998, continued his winning path and defeated Philippines’ Sugar Rey Ocana in the final of the Test Event.
Thailand’s ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships silver medallist and three-time Olympian Saylom Ardee is member of their national team since 2005 but he did not box in the international competitions in the recent one and half year since the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Thailand’s welterweight (69kg) boxer defeated India’s Pawan Kumar and Indonesia’s Grece Simangunsong in the final stages of the Test Event.
The host of the next Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, the Japanese squad won the last gold medal of the Asian Games Test Event. Yuito Moriwaki is their current National Champion at the middleweight (75kg) but he was inexperienced in the international level prior the competition in Jakarta. The Japanese boxer launched tough punches and his effectiveness meant he could beat Chinese Taipei’s 20-year-old Kan Chia Wei in the last final.
