Hossein Kordlou and Magzhan Alimov delivered surprised at the Yerevan Mayor’s Cup

After the Great Silk Way Tournament, the Yerevan Mayor’s Cup is the next top international event in the Caucasian region.
The city of Yerevan is Armenia’s capital which hosted the 2022 European Elite Boxing Championships and famous of its boxing history.
Iran, Iraq and Kazakhstan also sent boxers to the busy Yerevan Mayor’s Cup among the Asian National Federations to increase the experience of their talents.
The number of the boxers is 106 in the Yerevan Mayor’s Cup in Armenia where the light welterweight (63.5kg), the welterweight (67kg) and the light middleweight (71kg) are the busiest divisions.
Magzhan Alimov is not the best boxer at the light welterweight (63.5kg) in Kazakhstan but he succeeded in the quarter-finals of the event. The young Kazakh had a local opponent from Armenia, Armen Sargsyan but he managed to beat him by unanimous decision which means Alimov is now a medallist in Yerevan.
Nurzhan Amankeldi competed in the last Kazakhstan National Spartakyad in 2023 and he had some excellent youth results before that. The promising boxer returned at the light middleweight (71kg) and he had a strong strategy to beat Armenia’s Andranik Sedrakyan in the quarter-finals of the competition.
Kazakhstan’s former ASBC Asian Youth Champion Talgat Shayken returned to the competitions in 2024 and he moved up to the middleweight (75kg). The 24-year-old strong boxer had a wonderful battle against Russia’s Ismail Mutsolgov in the Yerevan but his opponent’s hand was raised after the last bell.
Iran also sent a team to the Yerevan Mayor’s Cup not for the first time and their new national team members proved their progress in Armenia. Hossein Kordlou is newcomer in the international stage of boxing but he bowed out Armenia’s European medallist Hambardzum Hakobyan causing the main sensation of the quarter-finals.
Iran’s Seyed Yousef Mousavi was also energetic in his super heavyweight (+92kg) bout but Armenia’s World Championships silver medallist Davit Chaloyan was too experienced for him in the quarter-final stage.
